Oil-for-food inquiry says 'key' is $1bn UN paid itself in fees (Apr 26 2004 03:56 GMT) - Oil-for-food inquiry says 'key' is $1bn UN paid itself in feesTelegraph - More than $1 billion (£560 million) collected by the United Nations as its "commission" on Iraq's oil-for-food programme has become a fresh focus for the inquiry into the biggest scandal ever to engulf the organisation. At least $1.1 billion was paid directly into UN coffers, supposedly to cover the cost of administering the $67 billion scheme, while Saddam Hussein diverted funds intended for the poor and sick of Iraq to bribe foreign governments and prominent overseas supporters of his regime. |

Re: hatch failure (Apr 26 2004 03:56 GMT) - Jim, You have not given us any specifics about what went wrong or how you’re trying to build the hatch currently but there has been many past posting on the subject. Most postings in the past seem to indicate 12 inch radius bend is about the tightest most builder use with (I think) 1/8 inch plywood. Paul Butler (www.butlerprojects. |

Icon post (Apr 26 2004 03:56 GMT) - A bunch of people on my friends list have been posting explanations of their icons. My temporary default. I'll get bored of it quickly. I saw the picture from the cover of Freedom of Choice in the liner notes to their Greatest Hits which I bought recently and thought that it would make a good icon. The text wrote itself, of course, so you can't blame me for it. |

Some excellent comments on my ... (Apr 26 2004 03:54 GMT) - Some excellent comments on my nested facets posts, describing how this kind of nesting can be better looked at as the "scope" of a facet. I like the "scope" approach. It conflicts with topicmaps' understanding of scope somewhat, but I think that's ok. It's still better than "nested facets". |

Iron Chef America (Apr 26 2004 03:54 GMT) - Didn't get much work done this weekend as I was pretty much laid low on Saturday with a fever. The upside? Lots of vegging out in front of the tv and I got to watch the new Iron Chef America. The best by far was the tag team battle. Here's to hoping that it's just the first of many. |

The Power of Walt Mossberg (Apr 26 2004 03:54 GMT) - Thursday is the best news day because I get Circuits from the NYT and Personal Technology from Walt Mossberg in the WSJ. The current issue of Wired has a great article on Mossberg and his power and influence in the tech space. It will be online eventually and I?ll try to remember to go back and link it here (just added to Tasks), but if you subscribe or get it at the newsstand, you should check it out. |

Otherwise, I would not have heard the fascinating interview with the Israeli ambassador to the USA conducted by Jay Sekulow of ACLJ. In a few days it might be posted here I hope. |

City-data pictures (Apr 26 2004 03:52 GMT) - City-Data has a lot of statistics on about every city, town and village in the US. While there is nothing new about this service, I enjoyed being able to compare cities and towns of interest. What inspired me to post it here though, are the pages of random pictures submitted to the site from all over the country. Basically, you get a diverse collage of how people see their own locals. Here's a nice example. |

The realest real (Apr 26 2004 03:51 GMT) - So, I'm writing a script for a reality show. In it, a team of fit-but-insecure aspiring actors and models (plus one nerdy, self-confident Asian college student) work together to restore and pimp out a 1974 Winnebago motor home, inside and out, over the course of several weeks. The team will be coached by a custom car aficionado from Southern California and five homosexual gentleman, learning from them not only how... |
