Women In Steel perform at Brooklyn Museum's gala celebration (Apr 26 2004 23:47 GMT) - The Brooklyn Museum occupies a special place in history as the one that was slated to be the largest in the world - larger than the famed Louvre in Paris - had it been built to its original specifications of 3,000,000 square feet. Brooklyn's annexation to New York City brought about the scaling back of those plans to one sixth that size. Women in Steel who have made their own mark as Brooklyn's only all-female steel orchestra, became part of the institution's history as it marked yet another epoch in its existence. Saturday April 17 heralded the official public unveiling and celebrated opening of the Brooklyn Museum's New Open Front Entrance and Public Plaza, and free admission to the facility and the day's events facilitated a constant audience flow in the tens of thousands. |

But when Al Qaeda bombed a police headquarters in Ryadh, Saudi Arabia, the Saudis could not understand how jihadists could kill fellow Muslims who are good and not evil. The zealots of Saudi Arabia have produced the zealots of Al Qaeda. And if Americans are not careful, they can produce American zealots to intensify the fire of hatred.... |

Review of 'Perl Medic' (Apr 26 2004 23:46 GMT) - TBR writes "In the real-world software maintenance is, in the vast majority of cases, an absolute pain in the butt. Poor documentation, commented code that's more fiction than non-fiction, obscure data structures. If the code has been around you can expect multiple coding standards, different styles and special cases galore. Bitter, twisted? Yep, that's what happens when you inherit legacy code. |

SCHOOL PROGRAMS FROM HELL (Apr 26 2004 23:44 GMT) - Ah yes, I remember when we used to have General Assembly at school as a kid. One time our school even brought in that guy from Mutual Of Omaha's Wild Kingdom that Merlin Perkins always used to talk into doing all the dirty (and dangerous) work for our viewing pleasure (and his probably). But I must say that none of my school's special programming ever made me puke. I guess they have to try real hard to keep the kids attention these days. |
