Re: hatch failure (Apr 26 2004 23:42 GMT) - I had a few things working against me while building my hatch. I chose to use Grant's method of sealing which requires 1/4" plywood exterior. There is a 2" over hang on the outside ply that is actually the sealing surface. The Benroy hatch has a pretty sharp radius and I used 1/4" lauan plywood, which doesn't bend all that easy. I had to make the ribs with about an inch tighter radius and everything worked out great. |

self-organization is not a pipe dream (Apr 26 2004 23:42 GMT) - A couple of weeks ago on a post about google, gmail, centralization and not, Andrew left a comment that stayed with me. He said:Decentralisation is _never_ going to catch on. The average person does not care. They just don't. |

Down The Memory Hole (Apr 26 2004 23:42 GMT) - Powerline catches John Kerry in the act of historical revisionism when it comes to his own record. I have a feeling the Kerry campaign just jumped the shark with over six months left on the clock...... |

Bits keep falling from the sky (Apr 26 2004 23:41 GMT) - I've been fooling around with BitTorrent lately. Nothing big, just fiddling to see how it all works and playing around a bit. (Yeah, OK, I admit it--I've been snagging manga scanslations off the shub-internet :) Definitely a cool idea, though the reference implementation lacks some things that'd make it otherwise handy. Things like a global rate limit and client cap, handy for those of us with full-time internet connections that don't mind being seeds for a directory full 'o stuff, but don't have that much bandwidth on hand. |

What about the 800 x 600 resolution people? (Apr 26 2004 23:40 GMT) - Always build for an 800x600 resolution even if I with a 19" monitor use a 1024 resolution. Come on, most of us always check pages in Netscape/Mozilla and Opera even if users of these browsers are FAR below a 40% number - LOL |

Study: Legal Fears Scare Away Downloaders (Apr 26 2004 23:40 GMT) - Driven largely by fears of copyright lawsuits, more than 17 million Americans, or 14 percent of adult Internet users, have stopped downloading music over the Internet, a survey finds. But the overall percentage of people who say they currently do so has inched back up since November, the Pew Internet and American Life Project said in a study Sunday. A third of the former downloaders nearly 6 million say they stopped because of the highly publicized lawsuits filed by the recording industry since last summer against more than 1,000 users. |
