How not to do electronic commerce (Apr 27 2004 07:59 GMT) - Today, (presumably) the second instance of Mahler's Beethoven's 9th arrived here. It's the first one I ordered, also at Amazon marketplace. That particular merchant first sent a confirmation for the wrong CD, and -- upon my complaint -- notified me... |

Classical ear-openers. (Apr 27 2004 07:59 GMT) - Susan Crawford has -- in late February -- blogged what must have been an ear-opener concerto: Slatkin conducted Mahler's retouche of Beethoven's 9th, and before that gave a lecture explaining the various versions of the symphony. I have now finally... |

Brainpool's rock opera finally on stage (Apr 27 2004 07:58 GMT) - YSTAD - Christoffer Lundquist's band Brainpool is finally getting their rock opera "Junk" on stage. The band members tell Ystad's Allehanda that the opera criticizes our modern consumer society. As the band members describe it, "the society produces junk, talks crap and stinks like trash." Brainpool will perform the opera with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra during the Malmö Music Festival on August 19. The opera will also be released on CD on August 25. |

Found some new picture workflow treasures (Apr 27 2004 07:56 GMT) - I'm still a bit annoyed with my picture handling workflow, basically since the default Nikon RAW handling software is crappy as hell (slow as molasses on Mac OS X, a plain Carbonification rather than an nice Aqua port, etc...) Yesterday night I found out about dcraw.c, yet another magnificent example of the power of open source. Some solo guy has been working on this love project of him for several years, and his code appears in almost every RAW converter or handling software out there, Photoshop included (!). |
