Derek's Rantings and Musings

TMDA (Apr 28 2004 15:59 GMT) - After reading Jeremy's rant on TMDA yesterday, it was ironic when I got a message myself. The kicker? It was a TMDA caused by some worm. In other words, some worm forged my address, sent a message to some_user, and some_user decided to cost-shift the burden of figuring out "is this legit" to ME instead of bearing it himself. So, this was the first time I clicked/replied to a TMDA request. |

ANTI-SEMITISM IN ISRAEL, THE US AND EUROPE (Apr 28 2004 15:59 GMT) - Today and tomorrow a Conference on anti-Semitism is held in Berlin. A very good initiative. What happened in Europe in the middle of the previous century should never, ever happen again. However, there is a tendency among Jewish people (Zionists mainly) to take advantage of the holocaust for present-day political purposes, to obscure human rights issues in their own country. Why I'm beginning to hate Google (Apr 28 2004 15:56 GMT) - At the Scripting News Dinner on Monday evening, Ed Alkema told a story about how his company invested in WAP only to find that it was not a viable proposition for a small enterprise to develop applications, because operators had developed their own browsers, and had different interpretations of what was supposed to be a standard. Adam Curry has pointed out that there is a risk of the same thing happening to the RSS world. Dave Winer agrees. I am not that technically literate on RSS and Atom, but I do have experience in software development. Looking at a comparison of RSS and Atom, it is probably true that it might be possible to support both RSS and Atom right now. |
