Wednesday, 04/28/04 10:59 PM (Apr 29 2004 05:59 GMT) - This is interesting; President Bush wants nationwide broadband access by 2007. "Bush's proposal is both incremental and deregulatory. It touts the introduction of low taxes, more available spectrum and limited regulation as the way to encourage private companies to bring broadband to the shrinking number of Americans who do not have it. |

Say It Ain't So! (Apr 29 2004 05:59 GMT) - I've just heard about the upcoming Hollywood remake of one of my favorite dance movies -- Shall We Dance? -- and it's making my skin crawl. I suppose there was some miniscule chance that I could have been convinced that it might actually be a good movie, but that pretty much dropped to zero the moment they added Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez to the cast. Seriously now, J-Lo? Come on... |

The Punisher review (Apr 29 2004 05:58 GMT) - I just got back from watching The Punisher, the new movie based on the Marvel comic books. Having viewed the first one, starring Dolf Lungren, I will say that the first one looks even worse than it did before. This one is 100 times better, and a lot more in line with the excellent series of comic books. The first one was watered down, boring, and very Hollywood. This one was well made, high on plot, and the biggest name was John Travolta who played a great mobster. |

That and other scenes of humiliation at the hands of U.S. military police appear in photographs obtained by CBS News, shown Wednesday night on "60 Minutes II." |

What's Wrong With Blogs? (Apr 29 2004 05:57 GMT) - Daniel Drezner and Kevin Drum aren't happy with George Packer's latest assault upon the blogosphere. But Packer's assertions and arguments are so fundamentally baseless that one wonders why he chose to take on the blogosphere at all. He complains that blogs failed to predict Dean's fall and Kerry's rise, but did any mainstream media pundit predict these surprising events? Packer is upset that "anyone with a computer and an Internet connection can blog." But isn't this democratization of opinion mongering a positive thing? |

Linux problem (Apr 29 2004 05:56 GMT) - True to my nature, I somehow managed to “break” a vital piece of my Linux install. Also true to my nature, I did it when I really didn’t have the time to dedicate to fixing what I broke in the first place. |
