Ella Enchanted : 3 of 5 (Apr 29 2004 23:48 GMT) - I always enjoy variations of the fairy tale genre, so I had to see this movie. I also really enjoyed Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries, so I knew she would be "enchanting" in this film as well (but I hadn't expected she would look so gorgeous - Anne is one fantastic looking actress!). The story takes place in a fantasy world of castles and kings, ogres, giants, and elves (who all have a beef with the Brothers Grimm), and poor Ella is cursed at birth to always be obedient - meaning she immediately does anything asked of her, no matter how silly it is. She goes through her life trying to find the fairy who cursed her, falling in love with the young prince on the way (of course). |

'Queer Guy For Hunt High' Loses Election (Apr 29 2004 23:48 GMT) - I really feel for this young man. He has a lot of heart and courage. I wrote about this on April 27th. It turns out that he came in last in the election. I'm sure he's very disappointed by that, but I hope he knows that if nothing else, he has made people think about this issue.... |

Shopping Carts that Produce URLs with No ? (Apr 29 2004 23:47 GMT) - ------- Apr 29, 2004 After searching Google and reading hundreds of shopping cart reviews, I have not found a single shopping cart package that: (1) is a full featured shopping cart - the Paypal "shopping cart" is not (2) produces no "?" in the resulting URLs (3) can be bought outright and not a pay-by-month service (4) is not all Javascript (5) costs less than $300 The term "full featured" means nothing more than the shopping cart must have a simple administration feature that permits the addition, deletion and modification of products without any programming ability whatsoever. If anyone here knows of a shopping cart program that can meet the aforementioned criteria, please please please let me know. Ambassador ------- |

Lubavitch in context (Apr 29 2004 23:47 GMT) - Ok. I don’t know why this article disturbs me [so much]. I was born and raised in and around Crown Heights and remember far enough back to when Lubavitch was still aspiring to become the driving force and power within Judaism that it remains. I’m 45 years old. My family members are / were not Chabadniks (not everyone in Crown Heights is), but living around Lubavitch, you do get caught up in the pride, fervor, and dare I say, interesting... |

The Culture of Gift in Wealth Bondage (Apr 29 2004 23:47 GMT) - Posted by The Happy Tutor For several days I have been trying to write something, in response to a request for comments by Tom Muennecke on his giving space list serv about this essay on giving by Frederick Turner (pdf), posted at The Philanthropic Enterprise. I have now read it three times, and while my interests are in giving, I keep staring at the text and coming up blank. Normally, in writing about giving the author indicates some personal interest or passion, some desire to give something to somebody, or some upwelling of gratitude, some desire to pass on a living tradition. |

The Mariners (Apr 29 2004 23:46 GMT) - Depending on your level of reality or fantaticism, what I'm about to say will either be incredibly obvious or local sports heresy: the Mariners aren't very good. Let's look at some numbers: At 7 wins and 15 losses (with one postponed game), they're on pace to win 53 games this year. Fifty-three. |
