Know your Judge (Apr 30 2004 03:09 GMT) - This is a neat feature for Maricopa County Judges - they list their preference (click on Profile), so that attorneys know what to expect, especially if they haven't practiced before the particular judge before. Here is an example of things... |

Tourist Tanks (Apr 30 2004 03:09 GMT) - The aquarium building of Palmer Station is where our project spends many hours a day running taste test experiments on the sea stars, checking on bucket experiments as Anne described last week and as you will read about in later entries, conducting feeding experiments on fish. It is also where we ... |

Wireless Networked Music (Apr 30 2004 03:06 GMT) - This afternoon I was working away in my home office, making phone calls and generally trying to be productive. I had the doors shut, and was as hermetically sealed in my office as I could be. It wasn't enough. |

Taps (Apr 30 2004 03:05 GMT) - You've probably already heard this, but just in case: Friday night on ABC, Ted Koppel's Nightline will air a special broadcast showing the names and faces of all American soldiers "killed by hostile fire" in the Iraq war. Keeping kids safe (Apr 30 2004 03:05 GMT) - I find it very strange that most parents are not worried about their children's risk of drowning. The vast majority of parents said they don't let their children swim unsupervised -- but many also admitted that they're often distracted while supposedly watching their children in the water, saying they talk to someone (38 percent), read (18 percent) or eat (17 percent). Nearly two thirds of parents who owned pools or spas lacked fencing that completely separates the pool area, and 43 percent of these areas had no self-closing or self-latching gates. Parents also reported that they do not always require their children to wear personal flotation devices while boating or doing other potentially dangerous water activities. |

Google IPO Official (Apr 30 2004 03:05 GMT) - To expand on Bill's last post (not that I am a financial expert), I want to discuss the process by quoting some key passages from the document. The Qualification Process When the preliminary prospectus becomes available, you will be able to obtain a unique bidder ID from a web site. You will not be able to obtain a unique bidder ID after our underwriters begin taking bids in the auction for our initial public offering. We seek to enable all interested investors to have the opportunity to qualify to bid and, following qualification, place bids in the auction for our initial public offering. To help meet this objective, we expect to use an underwriter group that serves all segments of the investing public. |

Wal-Mart's Sam's Club Adds more Linux Desktops (Apr 30 2004 03:05 GMT) - "Sam's Club, the members-only branch of retail giant Wal-Mart, added two new Linux PCs to its lineup on Thursday. The machines, made by CPUBuilders, a division of Wichita, Kan.-based hardware maker Stratitec, are high-end models targeting cost-conscious small businesses and carry street price tags of $472 and $597. Each system is pre-installed with the "Linux for Everyone" operating system. The cheaper of the two runs on an AMD Athlon XP 2700 processor and includes an 80GB hard drive, a GeForce 4 MX440 64MB AGP video card, 256MB of DDR memory and a built-in 10/100 Ethernet modem. |
