Still in limbo... (Apr 30 2004 04:14 GMT) - No DSL as of yet, I've been making do with trips to the library to check email sporadically. Just set up my machine & configured a dialup connection, which will have to do for now. Here's a customer service shout-out... |

TLAs (Apr 30 2004 04:14 GMT) - In the midst of a discussion about whether "disabled students" or "students with disabilities" was more correct (don't ask!), someone chimed up with these terms she had heard to refer to siblings of such kids who are without disabilities: CRABs—currently regarded as able-bodied—and NDAs— |

Risky Pleasures (Apr 30 2004 04:12 GMT) - -- I don't understand this passage in the WaPo story about the accession of ex-communist countries to the EU: "Fifteen years after the Berlin Wall fell, the eight -- who will join with Cyprus and Malta -- have traded the straitjackets of planned economies and one-party rule for the risky pleasures of democracy and capitalism."According to my understanding of the way the world works, anything BUT democracy and capitalism is risky, though not a pleasure. |

My dream of genie (Apr 30 2004 04:12 GMT) - I'm blogging this from Living With The Genie: On Technology and the Quest for Human Mastery, an exciting star-studded, deep-thinky conversation introduced by Michael Pollan, moderated by Christina Desser, co-editor of the Living with the Genie title that inspired the panel (idea for promoting this book in the fall or next spring?), and incorporating Denise Caruso, Mark Schapiro, and Ray Kurzweil (via 2D telepresence). Met Justin Hall after reading his journalings since the mid '90s. Shacker is webcasting. |

Re: Dados and side walls.... (Apr 30 2004 04:11 GMT) - Kelsey, My outside walls are 3/4" ply. The bulk head, floor and front storage/shelf will be 1/2" baltic birch. I am also kicking around the idea of using my router to carve out the back side of the plywood wall where I can and install either 1/2" or 1/4" pink foam insulation. If I do this it will be mainly for weight savings rather than for R-value. I am trying to keep the over all weight down because I will be towing this one with the mini van instead of the Jeep. |
