- The uplifting mentor redemption I'd like to see some late summer or fall, or maybe around the holiday season: A story about a classical pianist, and the classic pain-in-the-ass. Classical pianist agrees to his dying brother or best friend's last wish - that he teach his early-teens son to play, rediscovering in the process of dealing with a young gasta-rapper his own love for the music, going back to his own, early roots in jazz and interest in punk rock - bringing the joi de vivre that was missing in his own performances, and bringing some discipline to the rap-style of his young charge, and creating a mutual respect for each other. I can see some scenes now, with early lessons exploding in boring frustration, until Clarence begins teaching Charles from music that is roots to both of them. The thing that's tricky for me is to hear the specifics of the music - some of the hip-hop making it into the classical style, and some of the classical hitting the hip hop. |

- Last night I went to see Jan and Barry for a lovely evening of sloe gin (like gin but purple - a grown up alcopop!), crisps and gossiping. In the background some ridiculous film called "Excalibur" was on, which disturbed me as Merlin had a bizarre metal skullcap, and not the pointy hat he ought to. And it didn't match his gown!
