Skip Plasma & Wait for LCD (Apr 30 2004 06:59 GMT) - Plasma and DLP technologies are all the rave for home theater televisions these days. But, if you really want to get the best in home theater for years to come, you probably want to wait for LCD. Here's an article that talks about why LCD will pass plasma as the buyer's choice in the near future. Sure, LCD is currently very expensive and does not offer the largest of screen sizes. But those issues should be history within the next 12 months (the huge price reduction is primarily based on an increase in the number of LCD raw material manufacturers). |

Wyman Or Bust! (Apr 30 2004 06:58 GMT) - Field trips are always a breeding ground for stories. Today's field trip was no different. We had a full schedule. To start off the day we headed over to UMR to Castleman Hall to see a performance of two of the stories from Arabian Nights (The Ebony Horse and The Fisherman and the Jinni). The actors were from a group called Scales and Stories. |

Does Google help governments censor results? (Apr 30 2004 06:58 GMT) - Wired Magazine, January 2003Brin was no expert on international diplomacy. So he ordered a half-dozen books about Chinese history, business, and politics on Amazon.com and splurged on overnight shipping. He consulted with Schmidt, Page, and David Drummond, Google's general counsel and head of business development, then put in a call to tech industry doyenne Esther Dyson for advice and contacts. Google has no offices in China, so Brin enlisted go-betweens to get the message to Chinese authorities that Google would be very interested in working out a compromise to restore access. |

I like Eclipse (Apr 30 2004 06:58 GMT) - Actually, eclipse is often mistaken as a Java IDE. No doubt, the Java IDE that it comes with is great, but there's a lot more to eclipse. E.g. if you're working with XML-based document formats, there are multiple plug-ins which allow you to create documents and validate them as you write. |

The country's well-known Muslim comic, Shabana Rehman, decided to find out Tuesday when she lifted the founder of Iraq's Ansar al-Islam terrorist group off the ground before a startled audience. The cleric, known as Mullah Krekar, did not find the stunt funny. He went up smiling but was sputtering with rage by the time Ms. Rehman set him back down. |

The house that Jinnah built - Asia Times (Apr 30 2004 06:57 GMT) - "Far from the madding crowd of the Indian elections, away from the high-profile glare of the twin core issues of Kashmir and cross-border terrorism that more often than not divide India and Pakistan, a beautiful old house in Mumbai's plush Malabar Hill area patiently waits for the hammer of history to write yet another chapter in the relationship of the two nations ... Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf wants India to "give" Pakistan the house as an outright gift, or perhaps "lease" it in perpetuity, as a symbol of New Delhi's faith in the new peace initiative with Islamabad." |
