Government Launches Comparison Shopping Site For Drugs (Apr 30 2004 06:56 GMT) - The government has launched what is basically a comparison shopping engine for prescription drugs. Drug buyers can go to the site, put in the drugs they have prescriptions for along with their zipcode and find out what local pharmacies are charging. While, officially, the site is designed for Medicare recipients to help them determine what sort of "discount card" they should get, people have quickly noticed that the "discount card" is something of a misnomer. The prices you get with the discount card are pretty damn similar to what you get without it. Still, by making prescription drug buyers more informed, the government is hoping to push drug prices down. |

France Struggles to Curb Extremist Muslim Clerics - NY Times (Apr 30 2004 06:55 GMT) - "France has long maintained one of the strictest antiterrorism programs in Europe, in part because the country was hit early by Islamist terror and because it has the largest Muslim population on the Continent. Many other countries in Europe have been far more tolerant in allowing radical discourse to flourish in their mosques. But making such a hard-line stance stick is difficult, even here in a country that has been more willing than most of its European neighbors to limit free speech in the interest of a calm and cohesive society." |

On the basis of his personal experience, Padgaonkar said the book gave an honest insight into the socio-cultural setting of Pakistan. "Much is written about the country but a majority of it is about trauma and nostalgia. However, this book overcomes stereotypes and gives the reader a different perspective," he said." |

Satellite images match ancient map (Apr 30 2004 06:54 GMT) - Satellite imaging techniques are shedding new light on an ancient map of the northeast Atlantic. From innovations-report.com: The ornate map, seemingly crude by todays standards, depicts sea monsters off the coast of Scotland, sinking galleons, sea snakes, and wolves urinating against trees. When oceanographers from Plymouth Marine Laboratory and the University of Rhode Island compared a large group of swirls, shown on the chart off the east coast of Iceland, with thermal images from an Earth observation satellite they found the swirls corresponded almost perfectly with the Iceland-Faroes Front - where the Gulf Stream meets cold waters coming down from... |
