A Face Plant for Dubya (May 24 2004 18:58 GMT) - Ouch. Looks like Dubya did a face plant and used his hand to break the fall. Wasn't he wearing gloves? John Kerry made a snarky comment about "training wheels," after taking a fall himself a couple of weeks ago. George Bush said nothing about Kerry's fall. |

Nieuwe video brengt bewijs: '40 funerals and a wedding' in Irak (May 24 2004 18:54 GMT) - Vijf dagen geleden bombardeerden Amerikaanse troepen in Irak een plaats vlak bij de Syrische grens. |

State of Play: Linux on the Desktop for an ordinary Business (May 24 2004 18:54 GMT) - Recently I began a process to convert a small office of ten staff over to Linux, after implementing two servers and a shop floor machine for over a year. Three desktop machines are in use already, one is ready to swap over, and two Windows machines remain to be done. This article describes my experiences, decisions so far, the issues the users faced, and how and why I chose the default Window Manager (KDE 3.2.2) and Display Manager (wdm). |

Democrats' dilemma -- what to say about war (May 24 2004 18:53 GMT) - ANALYSIS: Strategy similar to Bush's San Francisco Chronicle Marc Sandalow, Washington Bureau Chief Saturday, May 22, 2004 Washington -- Turmoil in Iraq threatens to undermine President Bush and his Republican Party's electoral prospects, but Democrats are struggling to explain exactly how their position on the war offers a real alternative. Two developments on Capitol Hill this week demonstrate the ambiguity of the Democratic position on Iraq. On Wednesday, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi assailed Bush's "incompetence'' and said the only way to prevail in Iraq would be to replace Bush as commander in chief. The next day, an overwhelming majority of Democrats -- including Pelosi -- voted to support the White House's request for $25 billion in war funds. |

Green Scientist: Nuclear Power Vital to Save Earth (May 24 2004 18:52 GMT) - James Lovelock: Nuclear power is the only green solution. We have stayed in ignorance for many reasons; important among them is the denial of climate change in the US where governments have failed to give their climate scientists the support they needed. The Green lobbies, which should have given priority to global warming, seem more concerned about threats to people than with threats to the Earth, not noticing that we are part of the Earth and wholly dependent upon its well being. |
