Global warming affects Arctic first (May 30 2004 02:55 GMT) - Nunatsiaq NewsGlobal warming is hitting the Arctic more than twice as fast as the rest of the planet, the chairman of an eight-nation study said this week. "There is dramatic climate change happening in the Arctic right now... about two to three times the pace of the whole globe," said Robert Corell, chairman of the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment, in an 1,800 page report to be handed to the Arctic Council ministers meeting in Iceland in November. "If you want to know... |

All done - well, almost (May 30 2004 02:55 GMT) - The move is complete,,, well, the actual moving of stuff from point "A" to point "B" is done anyway. I get the feeling that the finding of individual pieces and unpacking phases are going to take a lot longer :-) |

It's All Over: Kerry Election Win Assured! (May 30 2004 02:55 GMT) - WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush on Saturday evoked the sacrifices of the Allied campaign against Adolf Hitler in a speech pledging to stay the course in the far more contentious war in Iraq. I blush to admit that I had never heard of Godwin's law before RJ quoted it a few weeks ago. Basically, it's the principle that says if you have to invoke Nazis, Germany or Hitler to win an argument, you've already lost. I confess that at the time I thought it was a rhetorical ploy to... |

A Fearful Populace is a Malleable Populace (May 30 2004 02:55 GMT) - We believe the timing of a May 21 FBI alert about suicide bombers, together with the latest public warnings of possible al Qaeda attacks, underscores the idea that a militant plot could be unfolding within the United States. The suicide bomber alert cautioned about people wearing heavy or bulky jackets on warm days, smelling of chemicals or trailing wires from their jackets; it also alerted people to more subtle indicators, such as a person with tightly clenched fists, who could be gripping... |

One Thousand Times Better (May 30 2004 02:11 GMT) - On my home PC, I've got roughly one thousand times more hard disk space than my first disk (50 MB to 40 GB), more than a thousand times CPU crunching capacity (4.77 Khz 8086 to 1.1 Ghz Duron), and a similar ratio for RAM (640K main memory + 16K ... |

Garbage day in the village (May 30 2004 02:08 GMT) - May 30, or 530. 5 3 can be read "gomi" in Japanese which means garbage. So what does May 30 mean in our village? Garbage 0 day. This morning, I participated with most of the village in picking up trash and junk around the village. |

Sony's PSP: Available in Black, Black, and Black (May 30 2004 02:08 GMT) - Looks like all those pastel PSPs Sony was showing at E3 were just a tease. According to an interview in Japanese game magazine Famitsu, Sony claims the various color PSPs were "just for reference. We plan to make the system black." I wouldn't worry too much, though. I'm sure if the PSP does well at all, color models will start showing up in no time at all. |
