Extending Mainframe Applications With Microsoft Host Integration Server 2004 Application Integration (May 30 2004 04:20 GMT) - This Support WebCast session is appropriate for enterprise developers, and architects who want to move toward a services-oriented architecture by using .NET Framework, but have to take advantage of existing investments in line-of-business applications that run on IBM mainframe and midrange systems. Host Integration Server 2004 Transaction Integrator (formerly COMTI) permits Windows developers to publish and extend business rules in mainframe (CICS and IMS) and AS/400 programs using Visual Studio .NET. The session will discuss how to import COBOL and RPG to efficiently publish XML Web services, without knowing SNA networking. |

Transitioning Technical Skills From Tru64 UNIX to HP-UX (May 30 2004 04:06 GMT) - This paper is intended for System Administrators and Value Added Resellers (VARs) facing a transition from Tru64 UNIX to HP-UX. It presents similarities and differences between the two operating systems, and recommends areas of focus for training. A move to any new environment incurs significant re-training and re-skilling, which carries a cost. Many Tru64 UNIX customers have cited these costs as a key concern in a transition to HP-UX. This paper shows that the existing skills of a Tru64 UNIX system administrator (SysAdmin) move nearly intact to an HPUX environment. |

Measuring America (May 30 2004 04:06 GMT) - So as not to disappoint Robert Prather, I?ll provide a very brief review of Measuring America by Andro Linklater (which I finally got around to finishing a few days ago, and which is June?s Signifying Nothing Book of the Month). Overall, I found it an engaging read. Linklater frames the story, as I suppose is the current trend in popular history narratives, around historical figures of interest, mostly surveyors but a few political figures (Thomas Jefferson chief among them) as well. |

The University of Colorado at Denver Brings Life to Animation With HP Workstations (May 30 2004 04:06 GMT) - At the University of Colorado at Denver, students enter the 3D Graphics and Animation program with visions of creating the next Shrek or Matrix movie. Program Director Paul Conner nurtures that dream while also guiding students toward a four-year liberal arts degree. When Conner was asked to create the CU Denver program and equip the 20-seat Digital Animation Center lab, he knew he wanted fast, easy-to-use workstations that would support student creativity. He also wanted workstations that would run the software that young animators needed to learn - whether they ultimately worked in film, science, engineering, business or medicine. Conner also learned that the HP Workstation was certified to run Alias Maya, the primary software he wanted to use in the Digital Animation Center. |
