Dog-friendly workplace (Jun 01 2004 16:53 GMT) - I think Seattle is more pet friendly than a lot of cities, and Microsoft carries that to the next level. This is, I think, the only place I’ve worked where I could bring two dogs in to my office, close the door, and get some serious work done and have no one raise an eyebrow. |

I know a dare when I see one (Jun 01 2004 16:53 GMT) - Tom reviews a rauchbier, apparently the original rauchbier: Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier from Munich. I have to confess not being that much of a fan of rauchbier, too much of which tastes like liquid Slim Jims for me to really have the taste. But I’ll enthusiastically take Tom up on his offer of a beer, especially since I still haven’ |

A close call (Jun 01 2004 16:53 GMT) - Yesterday evening, around 7 or so, while riding my bike through a complicated, bad intersection at Gilman Street and Eastshore in Berkeley, I was struck by a car, a small Nissan. The intersection was unusually empty. I was riding West on Gilman, and in the crosswalk crossing the entrance ramp to the freeway. This is a real bad intersection. To the west of Highway 80/580 is Frontage road which runs along the water, and just to the west of that is the Bay Trail, which I ride frequently. |

One of the best days of her life (Jun 01 2004 16:49 GMT) - On Sunday I had a special date with my seven year old second cousin, McKenna. We planned to go clamming together, that is, dig up clams on the beach at low tide. (And then take them home and eat them!) The day broke clear and warm, a slight breeze but nothing too chilling. We sat in the sun as we awaited the low tide in the early afternoon. |
