Inconstructive (Jun 01 2004 20:54 GMT) - It's discussions like this one that makes me want to turn off my Atom feed. Yadda yadda. These people ought to get a life and do something constructive for a change. [thx SWR & Hugo] |

Three Prayed ("Funny...") (Jun 01 2004 20:50 GMT) - One day, three men were hiking and unexpectedly came upon a large raging, violent river. They needed to get to the other side, but had no idea of how to do so. The first man prayed to God, saying, “Please God, give me the strength to cross this river.” Poof! God gave him big arms and strong legs, and he was able to swim across the river in about two hours, after almost drowning a couple of times. |

Is it toxic just to have meat nearby? (Jun 01 2004 20:49 GMT) - Dave Noisy notes that scientists may have found a link between meat workers and cancer. No, they're not causing cancer, but they certainly seem to be getting it a lot more than the general population: a sample group in New Zealand had a higher risk of all kinds of cancer and nearly double the risk of lung cancer. While some of this could be due to lifestyle, researchers suspect that the workers were being exposed to additional viruses and bacteria from the corpses. My sense of karma suggests that animals have developed some kind of "one last kick in the balls" gene. |

Scientists are trying to clone genetically engineered BSE-free cows (Jun 01 2004 20:49 GMT) - Rit4U.com sent in a story about cow cloning. The goal here is to produce a line of mad cow-resistant cows, which got my tofu-sense tingling an alert that we might be faced with the entire world's beef supply produced from a single breed of cattle, and a cloned one at that, but then I read on and saw that I had nothing to worry about, except for everything else that was wrong with the world - it turns out that the cows would be too expensive to be used for mere food, and instead they'd be used to produce drugs, which strikes me as a worse existence than even being a dairy cow would be. On the other hand, what's with the "it's too expensive to make mad cow-free flesh-based foods" line? It's not surprising, what with it apparently being too expensive to even test for mad cow disease, but if this was an elevator instead of a food supply we were talking about, there'd be lawsuits everywhere. |

A campaign to promote protection and their own condom brand Cho-san will begin this Friday - amorous couples who find themselves short of a condom can call the number (0771) 69 69 69 and the prophylactic ambulance will drive to their door with fresh supplies! |

UF Survey: Confused Consumers Give Shaky Nod Of Confidence (Jun 01 2004 20:47 GMT) - GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Consumer confidence among Floridians did an about face in June, but the reversal is muddled by mixed signals from state residents apparently perplexed about the true condition of the economy, University of Florida economists said today. |
