A detailed biography, illustrated with paintings and sketches of and by the poet, is provided, together with a good online anthology of his work. For many of these poems, the user may view a facsimile of an original hand-written manuscript as well as a transcription of the text. Of interest also is the online collection of correspondance between Rimbaud and his fellow poet and erstwhile lover, Paul Verlaine, and between Rimbaud and his family. The APARO promotes the rules for writing in French as published in the 'Journal officiel de la Republique française' in 1990. The site provides an overview of developments in French orthography, and the various rectifications approved by the Académie Française in 1990. The site summarizes these rectifications in a set of general rules concerning accentuation and spelling, which acts as a reference guide to the site's list of 800 words which exemplify the most difficult areas. Browsing through this list, users may click on an accompanying number for each word which leads to the relevant rule from the guidelines. |

The database contains approximately 50,000 basic word entries and 400,000 synonyms for those entries. The Dictionnaire is based on seven classic French dictionaries, including Larousse and Robert. This resource is easy to use and its authors have provided information on searching techniques and frequently asked questions in order to make searching easier. For each search, the dictionary not only gives a list of suitable synonyms but also classes those synonyms in graph form in terms of how common they are. |
