I was so close! (Jun 07 2004 23:48 GMT) - I had my Navy Reserve weekend in Encino and could have seen this if only I'd been on Ventura Blvd at the right time. (I was on it Sat, but before drunk driving prime time) LOS ANGELES - David Hasselhoff (news) was arrested over the weekend on suspicion on driving while intoxicated, police said Monday. The former "Baywatch" star was arrested late Saturday night on Ventura Boulevard in the Encino section of the San Fernando Valley, said Officer Sara Faden, a police spokeswoman. He was released the next morning. No further details were immediately available. |

Jul's bday (Jun 07 2004 23:48 GMT) - Considering it is Jul's birthday on Friday and we won't be seeing you until the beach, is it okay if we bring a present to the beach or should we send some money so that you can take her to the store & she can get what she wants? I don't care either way. |

Message: Re: New Headset Beta Trial! (Jun 07 2004 23:47 GMT) - I just got my unit this morning via FedEx overnight. First off, the unit is quite small and unobtrusive. When held in the hand, my first impression was that for an earpiece, the unit was a bit on the heavy side; it is made of a pliable plastic resin that is molded to be a bit thick. Perhaps this is why it seems heavy, but it is indeed quite pliable and seems sturdy too, as a result of the thickness of the plastic piece. |

Reception with the mayor (Jun 07 2004 23:47 GMT) - The new major of Toulouse had invited us for a reception at the Capitole today. Well, not just us, but all the local Danish and Swedish people they could get hold of. On occasion of the recent Danish and Swedish national holidays. Champagne and Petit Fours and official speeches. There aren't all that many Scandinavian people here, but it was still a lot more than we had met before. |

Metropolitan Museum (Jun 07 2004 23:45 GMT) - If you have a free hour this week, go up to the Met to see the August Sander show on the second floor. The exhibit features beautiful portraits of Germans from all classes of society- intellectuals, farmers, women, criminals, etc. They were shot from the 1920s to the 1940s, just as Germany was convulsing through the Weimar years and the rise of the Third Reich, as part of Sander's Menschen des 20 Jahrhunderts (People of the 20th Century) project. There's a companion show in a little room off to the side with a few Sugimoto pictures and some stuff by Thomas Struth- also worth checking out. |

AirTunes (Jun 07 2004 23:45 GMT) - Intrigued by Apple's Airport Express / AirTunes announcement. Finally, an Apple-centric (but not Mac-centric!) way to get the iTunes library across the house and into the stereo. The solution is pretty unique -- not at all what I (or almost anyone) expected, which was more like a wireless iPod-like home stereo component, maybe with video capabilities bolted on. AE plugs into a power outlet and into your stereo's audio-in (analog or digital). |

Message: Re: Can I Sign Up with Old Plans (Jun 07 2004 23:45 GMT) - "Once you have it you (typically) can keep it forever" Maybe-- As long as the old phone still works. As long as the network is still in place that the phone works with. In my area, the old analog system is still in place, but-- Only minimal usage is possible, due to saturation of the cells. The phone company contracted the analog service to the government, and government phones have priority access, leaving the other users with no service messages, and long delays to make calls. In addition, all existing customer accounts were transferred to Cingular. |
