Pistons 91, Lakers 99 (OT) (Jun 09 2004 04:59 GMT) - Yet more Lakers history was made tonight. As the Lakers were in danger of going town 0-2 ahead of three games in Detroit, Kobe Bryant hit a fantastic three-point shot to save the season. The shot seemed to demoralize the Pistons and rally the Lakers, as Detroit only scored two in the overtime session. Surprise hero of the game? Luke Walton. |

Darned spellchecker (Jun 09 2004 04:56 GMT) - OK, yes, that should have been "Venusian." Must have been thinking it worked like "Venetian." Which reminds me of the creative misspellings I've seen in years past, particularly at a certain small manufacturing company which shall remain nameless: "extention cord" and "spicket" (for spigot) come to mind. |

German Court Upholds Shopping-Hour Rules (Jun 09 2004 04:56 GMT) - Germany's highest court on Wednesday upheld the government's right to dictate store closing hours, ruling a federal law preventing retailers from opening on Sundays and holidays is constitutional. One of the country's major department stores had challenged the law, which dates back to 1956, as unfair and increasingly irrelevant. |

Message: Re: Why not more attractive multi-phone plans? (Jun 09 2004 04:54 GMT) - RE/ >Forgetting that we all pay $10-20/month for that free/discounted phone >we use. Sounds like something that could change, then - as SIM cards become standard one might expect unlocked phones become the norm and, maybe, phone ownership to become decoupled/unbundled from the provider's service. -- PeteCresswell ... |

Message: Are there any honest cell phone providers out there? (Leaving Cingular) (Jun 09 2004 04:54 GMT) - I just cancelled my contract with Cingular because I was lied to about my plan (among other things). It turns out that all phone calls are 10 cents a minute "long distance" even within the same town. This is despite the fact that I read the contract at the time (as I recall it said "long distance charges may apply," I took that to mean long distance charges would apply if I called outside the area) and I specifically remember asking at least twice if I would have to pay long distance for calls in the area that we wanted and both times was told No. I am not sure what the point is of signing a contract for a year and paying $30 a month and then paying 10 cents a minute. If I wanted to pay per minute I would have bought a cell phone with a calling card.. |
