A SOC code of 3 makes it think Cingular is home. Most other codes cause it to roam on Version wireless AMPS. I'am now in Birmingham Alabama the phone's home is Tyler, TX. |

Message: Re: Is this a legal phone? (Jun 09 2004 17:58 GMT) - I did the same thing, but wrapped my head and phone with an ace bandage. I had to go up on garage roof to adjust satellite dish and have both hands free, while listenening to the tone from my receiver. It was cold out so it kept my ears warm too. I was joking with my daughter, saying I wonder what the public would think of my hands free device. It looked like I had a serious head injury, or had brain surgery! |

TiVo Reveals Video-Over-Internet Plans (Jun 09 2004 17:57 GMT) - So this article in the Times about TiVo's plans to provide on-demand television streaming is almost real news, because it does finally confirm what exactly TiVo's plan is to save itself from obscurity. What it doesn't say, though, is how much it will cost and what content it will provide, meaning for now that this is just every other video-over-the-internet companies out there that promise big things and end up never getting off the ground. ... If I could pay Netflix-style pricing for television... |

WDS: confusing, powerful, and waiting ... (Jun 09 2004 17:56 GMT) - WDS: confusing, powerful, and waiting for a champion. After quite a bit of WiFi wrangling, around a month ago I begrudgingly admitted to myself that there was really no good way to boost the signal from my 802.11g router enough to provide any access worth a damn in the back of our apartment. And given that the root of the problem was the presence of thick, century-old plaster and lathe walls, the last solution I was interested in considering was drilling holes and running an ethernet cable all the way back. |

Message: Re: TDMA vs GSM (Jun 09 2004 17:56 GMT) - I would suggest the Nokia 6340i with Cingular, as it is very functional/practical, and has GSM 850/1900 MHz, TDMA 800/1900 MHz, and 800 MHz AMPS (Analog). It has very good reception and call clarity, and has excellent battery life. The battery life is up to 4 hours talk time, when using TDMA, and up 6 hours talk time when using GSM. I have had my Nokia 6340i since April 2003, and I am very happy with its features, and its ability to obtain service wherever there is service, regardless of air interface ( what's the big deal about TDMA? > > does this mean i SHOULDN'T buy a TDMA phone? |
