Pay Per Call (Jun 10 2004 23:59 GMT) - NYTimes writes: Herding customers of local businesses to the telephone is the latest effort of search engines to attract small and medium-size advertisers, which represent a huge, and as yet untapped, market. According to Greg Sterling, an analyst with the Kelsey Group, only about 350,000 small businesses worldwide are using paid search advertising. In recent weeks, technology companies have begun unveiling new services to further the effort. The idea behind the services is, simply enough, to direct customers from search engines to off-line businesses, where most commerce is actually conducted. |

Google and URL Forwarding to an eShop (Jun 10 2004 23:58 GMT) - If you purchase a domain name, and get some cheap hosting, you could just install oscommerce and a few free contributions (templates etc) and you would have a very similar shop. They company you mention are using a modified version of Oscommerce by the look of the urls, and the parameters, also the html code is a giveaway. Obviously you would not get the extra things this company gives, such as free software, but if its just the shop you are after, oscommerce is free ;) |

Projects like this demonstrate that real progress has been made in stem cell basics. The scientific and business communities see a clear path forward, and are starting to move more rapidly. |

wardepartment: Ever Had A Near Death Experience? (The Pit Of Zombies) (Jun 10 2004 23:57 GMT) - I was car jacked once a long time ago and they held a gun to the back of my head. Then they made us drive to a remote road and both of them got out of the car at the same time. They demanded all of mine and my friends money and the beer we had just gotten from the store. Well, little did they know, we had been out clubbing all night long and were already nearly wasted (plus I saw the gun pointed at my friend but was too wasted to notice the one pointed at me) (I guess once I saw the gun pointed at my friend's head I didn't notice anything else) Anyway, when they demanded the beer and money I yelled fuck you and floored it. They shot through the back windshield and the bullet hit my seat. |

Big Update on Yahoo (Jun 10 2004 23:55 GMT) - I wonder if I can receive diagonsis from friends here. I used to rank pretty well on a number of keyword strings such as "cheap toll free", "cheap 800 number", and so on, so that I got hits from almost every phrase related to toll free service that web surfers may think. I was very happy about that. Suddenly a month ago when Google made another update, I lost all of them and only have few combos such as "virtural PBX..." can find me. |

Nightmare Stories of Deafness (Jun 10 2004 23:55 GMT) - I was talking to my very cool hearing friend Jesykah about how people stereotype Deaf/HOH people, and ended up telling her my worst story of Deaf unawareness ever. I've gotten pretty desensitized to it myself, or at least I think I have. Anyway, if the following story offends you I apologize in advance. |
