Curious overlapping plates & strange armor (Jun 10 2004 17:58 GMT) - Rich was the first to notice some kind of unusual plates or armor in these photos. Here's some more my friend. Let the geologists explain this, or are these a new kind of crystal formation, unlike anything ever seen on earth? I've never seen rocks that look like they have a quill or bud-like attachment, almost like a feather. [Original Link] Lower right quadrant of the photo. |

Language Log (Jun 10 2004 17:57 GMT) - Via Language Log, I came across Thomas Jefferson's suggestions for "such a general collection as I think you would wish and might in time find convenient to procure". Mutants (Jun 10 2004 17:57 GMT) - Apparently Armand Leroi's Mutants is the favourite to win this year's Aventis science book prize. I've met Leroi a few times through uber-host John Brockman, who is also Leroi's literary agent (and the agent for most scientist writers you've heard of). |

Murder Victim Flushed Down Toilet (Jun 10 2004 17:56 GMT) - Blood seeping out of a bathtub and toilet led police to a grisly murder last Thursday. They arrested two men in an upstairs apartment on suspicion of killing a woman during a drunken argument, dismembering her body and flushing the remains down a toilet. themoscowtimes |
