Wi-Fi at Maryland Rest Stops (Jun 11 2004 16:59 GMT) - I love it when random stories about hotspots like this one at netstumbler are local for me: The state of Maryland is launching "hot spots" at two of its welcome centers on Interstate 95 so motorists can access the Internet wirelessly. More information can be found at Baltimore Bizjournals. |

Wind Me Up (Jun 11 2004 16:59 GMT) - Wind me up once more for fun I think you love me but then IÂ’m done You put me back and go to her acting clueless to what we were Use me for when sheÂ’s not around Then hide me back where I canÂ’t be found Stupidly thought it meant something to you It was just a mistake that youÂ’ve gotta get through While IÂ’m sitting here in my box waiting to be used Waiting for the next guy who wants to be amused IÂ’m hurt but why should I let that show Toys shouldnÂ’t have feelings thatÂ’s just how it goes and as soon as i recover from the last time I was wound Someone opens the toy box and shit, IÂ’ve been found So someone else takes their timeMakes me think theyÂ’ll soon be mine Just shows toys werenÂ’t made with brains included Leave me feeling used, embarrassed and intruded Toys may not have brains but feelings arenÂ’t a doubt But no one would ever stop to think what their toys are thinking about So wind me up and use me once moreLabel me now IÂ’m a whore ThereÂ’s a difference though between that and being used I want someone who doesnÂ’t just need amused To clip the metal that winds me tight What I need is someone who cares for one night Not someone to tell me things just so IÂ’ll later crySit in my little box and wonder why I need love, truly someone who sees when IÂ’m in pain Pull me out from under the rain And hold me tight, to tell me itÂ’s all ok But IÂ’m just a wind up toy, IÂ’ll never see that day |

How Mike Murphy lost my vote! (Jun 11 2004 16:59 GMT) - To my regular readers (assuming I have any), you might find this post isn't of interest you, it's about the Canadian federal election. I've been a Red Tory (fiscal conservative and socially liberal) all my life. In previous federal elections I voted Progressive Conservative. I've even worked on an election and leadership campaign for the party. So when this election was called, naturally I looked at the merged Alliance/PC party as my first choice. |

Why Spyware is good: it thins the herd (Jun 11 2004 16:58 GMT) - Nick Douglas sez: "WhereU is asking the court to change its mind on an authoritarian spyware law, albeit via a jurisdiction argument. Spyware sucks, sure, but if I can avoid it with Firefox and the occasional AdAware scan, I'd rather not pay taxes to protect luddites from it. Spyware is a disease in the Darwinian ecosystem of the Internet, and it keeps power users ahead of brain-deaders who click moving banner monkeys."... |

Media Portal Updates (Jun 11 2004 16:58 GMT) - Some people say that sucking up to me does absolutely no good. I would like to state for the record: that is absolutely not true. For instance, Johan Levin, who among other things worked on the latest version of the open source (I think) Media Portal software -- essentially a port of the very successful XBox Media Center software, with extra features to take advantage of its PC platform -- also happens to send me a lovely weekly digest full of interesting links from around the web. He's now trad... |
