- Ernest Miller writes "Yesterday, Valve CEO Gabe Newell thanked the gaming coummunity for helping to catch those responsible for the theft of Half-Life 2 code by saying, "Everyone here at Valve is once again reminded of how much we owe to the gaming community." What he didn't say was that Valve was demonstrating its appreciation by threatening to sue a cybercafe that was offering Valve's Counter-Strike as one of the games people could play. Companies like Microsoft often let cybercafes offer their games as long as they buy each copy of the game they use. At the other end of the scale, Valve charges more than most cybercafes can afford to let them use 5-year old, freely downloadable as a mod, games. Furthermore, instead of merely sending a cease and desist letter ("knock it off or we will sue"), Valve sent a prepay us for a license or we'll sue letter. |

- Discutiendo con un compaсero de la escuela, surgiу una conversaciуn acerca de los mйtodos de estudio, Inducciуn vs. Deducciуn. La inducciуn consiste, en enfrentarte a los problemas, e ir resolviendo las dudas en tiempo real, a medida que desarrollas la respuesta, en cambio, con la deducciуn almacenas los conceptos sin realizar apenas ejercicios. Me encuentro ante un dilema, їcuбl de los dos mйtodos serнa el mбs ideal?, con la inducciуn me encuentro con la ventaja de que, puedo aprender de los errores cometidos, y de esa forma garantizo una asimilaciуn bastante buena de los conceptos, el inconveniente, es que hay que gastar una buena porciуn de tiempo en realizar los ejercicios. |

- Hace un par de semanas pude disfrutar de la primera ediciуn de la Guadec-es, la Guadec es un congreso europeo de desarrolladores y usuarios de GNOME, y йsta es su ediciуn espaсola, se celebrу en Almendralejo (Extremadura), y me dieron la oportunidad de presentar un taller sobre Python como introducciуn a la programaciуn. Con respecto a la ponencia, pues, me puse muy nervioso y creo que me liй bastante, pero parece que el pъblico objetivo viу que aquello era muy fбcil y supongo que seguirбn con ello por su cuenta, eso me consuela ;-). Con respecto al evento, que puedo decir, la organizaciуn fue estupenda, las instalaciones de lujo, los contenidos geniales, me trataron como un rey, y ademбs tuve la oportunidad de conocer en persona a muchos de los que hasta ahora solo habнa podido comunicarme vнa internet y conocer mejor a los que ya habнa visto en el ъltimo Congreso HispaLinux y mбs tarde en el Congreso Internacional del Software Libre celebrado en Mбlaga, de ellos me llevo muy buenos recuerdos, y siento que he hecho nuevas amistades, alo (mi sufrido compaсero de habitaciуn), acs (el crapulнn), rodrigo (nuestro hacker de Evolution particular), garnacho (Arriba GST!), lgs, KaL, fernando, txenoo.... |
