Moore protests "R" rating Fictious ... (Jun 15 2004 08:59 GMT) - Moore protests "R" rating Fictious documentarist Michael Moore has no problem getting even more free publicity for his new movie, contesting the MPAA's "R" rating of his movie. He is whining that the restrictive rating, which is due to the film's "violent and disturbing images and for language," will prevent many young people from seeing it. And of course young people are the most likely to be duped by him. I bet Moore can somehow write the MPAA into his massive Bush-run conspiracy theory, and that this somehow ties in with a gas pipeline through Afghanistan. |

Computer Makers Jump Into The Anti-Spyware Game (Jun 15 2004 08:59 GMT) - While various ISPs have been making noises about how they now offer anti-spyware protection, there have been many complaints as it seems most of those products are very limited in how they block out spyware. It appears that most don't want to upset "partner" companies. Of course, relying on ISPs isn't the only way to fight spyware. PC makers are jumping into the game and are looking to offer spyware protection on their own. This is quite a change from just last year when Dell had told its tech support employees not to talk about spyware or to help people download products to get rid of it. |

Kozinski fans of the world rejoice! We have a home on the web. (Jun 15 2004 08:58 GMT) - Judge Alex Kozinski is one of the more interesting and entertaining characters on the federal bench, and in spite of being miles apart from me ideologically on many issues, he is one of my favorite judges. Although he starts from a strong ideological viewpoint, he is clearly a man who hungers for new experience, and learns from those experiences. Plus, I have a weakness for people who can write well, and Judge Kozinski is a brilliant writer. If someone could get him to write a weblog, I'd bet it would be in Technorati's top 10 in a few weeks. I corresponded with Judge Kozinski briefly over the revolt he led against Leonidas Ralph Mecham's attempt to monitor Federal Judges' internet usage, saw him in action at the Spectrum Policy debate at Stanford, frequently read his decisions when they come to my attention via Findlaw, and I am a regular reader of his former law clerk Eugene Volokh's weblog. |

The vision thing backfires (Jun 15 2004 08:57 GMT) - A dictator's core competence On the whole Musharraf got exactly the opposite of what he bargained for when he got his 'enlightened moderation' speech published in the Washington Post. In the same newspaper, Samina Ahmed and John Norris of the International Crisis Group have written a hard hitting critique of Musharraf's policies that expose his own miserable record at home. A 'moderation' of freedom: The words sound good, and such language from the leader of a nuclear nation on the front lines of the war against terrorism should be reassuring. But sadly, to most people who follow Pakistan closely, Musharraf's comments come across as dangerously close to farce. |
