For Your Consideration... (Jun 16 2004 01:57 GMT) - It's Emmy nomination season and each issue of Daily Variety arrives stiff from inserts and wraparound covers promoting TV shows with the classic line: "for your consideration." Warner Brothers took things further with last friday's issue, which came today because I don't pay for same-day delivery, and the mail was held up because of the funeral for a non-fictional president. Beside the cover with Martin Sheen's profile, there was a DVD in the cover that plays a five minute highlight reel from the past season of The West Wing. I didn't watch it this year, and heard that without Sorkin, the show's off its game, but from those five minutes, I can see they told quite a story this year, even if they created an Islamic hell to use as a Big Bad. |

Gay Film For A Straight Audience (Jun 16 2004 01:55 GMT) - If Nia Vardalos’ ego hadn’t got the better of her, Connie and Carla could have been a pleasant feel-good movie instead of a narcissistic adventure for her, oh and with lashings of gay stereotypes thrown in for good measure. |
