Court Tells DirecTV To Stop Extortion Plan One Day Later (Jun 16 2004 02:58 GMT) - It's beginning to sound like it wasn't so much the EFF's persuasive words that convinced DirecTV to stop suing people just for owning smartcard equipment. Just one day after that announcement was made, a judge has told the satellite TV company that they can no longer sue just for possession if they have no proof that the person actually did anything wrong with the equipment. It certainly took the courts long enough to come to that conclusion, causing problems for plenty of people who were wrongfully sued. In the meantime, this ruling makes you think that DirecTV already knew it was coming when they made their little "promise" to the EFF yesterday. |

Goat flux, redux (Jun 16 2004 02:57 GMT) - I must amend my positive goat flow statement in light of Tony's assertion that he achieved positive goat flow. Getting goats is not enough. You must keep the goats you have. Flamewars are, almost by definition, zero goat flux events. Sorry, Tony. |

Country Flag icons in several sizes (Jun 16 2004 02:55 GMT) - I just decided to publish german articles as well on this site, but with rare occurrence, because german is my native language. To mark those entries clearly, I searched for some country flags. The first interesting result was the world factbook released by the US CIA. This factbook includes a lot of country flags and really useful information about the countries located on this earth as well, but those flags were way too large. By resizing them, they would have the right size, but poor quality. |

Crashing prices for GMail accounts at eBay (Jun 16 2004 02:55 GMT) - More and more people get a GMail invitation nowadays which decreases the prices gained at auctions for accounts. The gold rush seems over, according to an article on Wired. There are people who were able to send six invitations they got in only two days. Therefore, the number of GMail account increased in the past which made it less unique which results in lower prices at platforms like eBay. This explains the now business with 'unique' addresses which I mentioned yesterday. |
