Sony Updates PSX: DESR-7100 and DESR-5100 (Jun 16 2004 11:59 GMT) - Sony has upgraded its Playstation 2/PVR hybrid box, the PSX, launching two new versions, the DESR-7100 (250GB, white) and the DESR-5100 (160GB, white, gray). Although just an incremental release, some changes include an faster CD ripping speed (24x), updated navigation interface, and options to edit your own DVD menus when burning custom discs. UK Considers RFID License Plates (Jun 16 2004 11:59 GMT) - A UK firm has developed e-Plates, license plates with embedded long-range RFID tags that they hope will be adopted by the UK government's Ministry of Transport. The system, of course, would allow speed checking sensors and other mechanisms to identify which cars were traveling at what speeds -- up to 200mph from up to 300 feet away.
