It's time to raise some ... (Jun 16 2004 23:55 GMT) - It's time to raise some revenue here at the 101 Ranch. And I know how much pledge drives suck, so I'll be selling off a few more of those meaningless scraps of thought, my original Post It™ notes: As always, these one of a kind artworks are priced at a 'pocketbook loving' 98 bucks apiece. In the middle is a star-hop map to find R Andromidae, a carbon star near the M-31 galaxy (in the sky, not in space) it's a two piece set,and has a hundred fortynine dollar special price. |

TALKING TURKEY ASSIGNMENT NEWS....To Istanb... (Jun 16 2004 23:55 GMT) - [BEYOND NORTHERN IRAQ: STUHUGHESIRAQ@MAIL.COM] - TALKING TURKEYASSIGNMENT NEWS....To Istanbul, Turkey next week for the NATO Summit. In many ways, it's the kind of job I loathe -- a carefully choreographed set piece event in which the press are kept a safe distance from the delegates, corralled into a media centre and drip-fed information through unenlightening news conferences. |

War and Consequences (Jun 16 2004 23:54 GMT) - Francis W. Porretto poses a hypothetical that's largely analogous to our present problems with Islamofascists. If Smith approaches Jones and says, "Jones, I am at war with you, and I intend to kill you," but does not immediately raise a hand... |

Gaz Metal: Avp (Gallery of Suicide) (Jun 16 2004 23:54 GMT) - Predator's kick arse! Those films are two of my favorite movies which I grew up with. I'm looking forward to the new AVP film but I bet it's gonna suck. I bet the humans end up blowing both creatures up and neither creature will win because the directors have no balls just like the directors of Freddy Vs Jason. |

The Other Kind of College (Jun 16 2004 23:52 GMT) - Those of us who went to elite four-year colleges and universities are prone to forget that most people don't. In the Washington Post today, a community college professor writes about the differences between the experience her community college students are having on the one hand, and the experience her daughter had at an elite college on the other. You go to community college because you are an ambitious kid whose parents don't have professional jobs. Because you are a girl in a family whose culture for thousands of years has valued education only for boys. Because you come from a family that never really thought about college for anyone, never saved for it or steered you toward it. |

The Reason for ATOM (Jun 16 2004 23:52 GMT) - It seems to me that folks embrace ATOM mainly to get away from the guy that's credited with inventing RSS: "I'm not running for president, I am not a corporate executive, and I don't tell bedtime stories to adults unless its for fun and they're friends. I can tell you what it feels like to be me, but I don't know how it feels to be you. I'm willing to listen, up to a point, but unless your site is hosted on weblogs.com, I don't understand why you're hogging the microphone right now. |

Refining the Versioning Story (Jun 16 2004 23:52 GMT) - Wesner Moise reports on a talk that Jeff Richter did on the .NET versioning story in the Longhorn time frame. Some interesting quotes: "a library could not easily be updated since the CLR looked for an exact version match. There was a complex way to solve this problem through policy files; |
