The Diplomats Finally Publish Their Statement (Jun 17 2004 15:57 GMT)

- The Diplomats & Military Commanders for Change finally got around to publishing their open letter denouncing President Bush's sense of appropriate international relations, and calling for regime change in America. The 27 signatories have served this country since Harry Truman occupied 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. They know what they're talking about when it comes to foreign policy. Between this, the recent revelations that John Kerry's campaign is raising money at twice the rate of George WMD Bush, and Ron Reagan's unabashed criticism of Bush's mixing of religion and politics, it's starting to become clear that the tide of opinion, even among conservatives, might finally be turning. Regime change doesn't seem so far-fetched anymore.

Song of the day: Most of Cliff Roth's The Reagans Speak Out On Drugs, an outstanding remix of Ronald and Nancy Reagan's September 14, 1986 address to the nation. (OK, OK, it's not a song.

Begone filthy spam! (Jun 17 2004 15:57 GMT)

- Doobie has again become deluged with spam, so I'm trying something new, and so far it seems to working better than anything else I've tried. This thing plus SpamAssassin (soon to be an Apache Software Foundation project) is keeping my mailbox free of crap. The program is called milter-sender. Right now it's happily blocking 10-15 messages per second for the 20 or so users of doobie.com.

What's in my garden? (Jun 17 2004 15:57 GMT)

- A number of people have been asking me about my gardens lately, so I thought I'd give everybody a run down on what I'm hoping to grow this year in San Francisco. Downstairs, on the sidewalk, there are four 3'x3' tree wells, each with a tree growing out of it. Last weekend, Denise and I planted petunia starts in all four wells, as well as laying some groundcover seed (sweet alyssum mostly), which should start to fill in by July. We're considering adding either Morning Glory or Black-eyed Susan Vines as well. These tree wells are on a very busy 4 lane one-way street that sees a lot of foot traffic.

My beloved Washington Redskins draft a safety in the first round. (Jun 17 2004 15:57 GMT)

- Like many other Washington, DC natives, I am a rabid Redskins fan. I know that if George W.M.D. Bush and Sonny Jurgensen were both to arrive at a Washington restaurant at the same time and there were only one table left, that Georgie boy would be the one that waits at the bar...
