Lofty Goals (Jun 18 2004 16:59 GMT) - Kristopher of The World Around You notes that the Alabama Democratic Party is seeking to lose by not as much this year in the Presidential election. Certainly an investment well-made. My guess is that between not being the incumbent Vice... |

Transmitting our historical legacy (Jun 18 2004 16:59 GMT) - Shakespeare's play "Julius Caesar" is presently being performed in Kansas City and their theater critic, Robert Trussell, made some interesting observations about the importance of Shakespeare’s play in transmitting knowledge of the Roman Empire to successive generations: "Funny thing about Americans. We may not know jack about history, but we've all heard of Julius Caesar. He has impressed himself on us in movies, plays, comic books, children's literature and endless number of biographies. Photographs of his marble bust have been published around the world. |

NBR Editorial: Right time for nuclear debate (Jun 18 2004 16:58 GMT) - The National party is wisely taking a cautious approach in its attempt to reverse New Zealanders' views on the nuclear ships and weapons ban. The party has released a lengthy report on the issues involved, which essentially focus on restoring this country's close defence relationship with the US. Contrary to public opinion, fears of any danger are overdone while the benefits are considerable. |

Why Not France, Indeed! (Jun 18 2004 16:56 GMT) - Why not vacation in France? I couldn't agree more! I suggest the south of France, especially Mandelieu-La Napoule. It's small, not as touristy as Cannes (although it's a five minute train ride away), and the restaurants are to die for. You won't see a McDonalds or Burger King around, and you'll be surrounded by the sea, the mountains and lots of really friendly French people. |

... but I don't want to measure (Jun 18 2004 16:56 GMT) - I believe you, Ammon, are saying that measurements of some kind can always improve art. So my plea at the beginning of this thread, " ... but I don't want to measure", should be met with a firm, "We understand that, but you'll be much better for it." I wonder whether Van Gogh would have cut off his other ear on hearing that. : |
