A Comment On The Preceding Post (Jun 19 2004 05:58 GMT) - There is, of course, the question of simple personal honor, or the quiet satisfaction of not volunteering to be robbed by the bastards. As for "plans" - here's a "plan": nothing has ever worked right and nothing ever will, and this process is accelerating in a elegant counterpoint to those wonderful new computer chips one reads about over at Venlet's place. "Hell is upon us" - a nice phrase, one I picked up from some history of the Pacific War, probably... |

Galt Or Roark? (Jun 19 2004 05:58 GMT) - Browsing the virtual stacks of Billy Beck's library today, I came across this:Atlas Shrugged, 1957, Ayn Rand -- "The most subversive political implication of 'Atlas Shrugged', is that individual freedom is possible only to those who are strong enough, psychologically and morally, to withdraw their sanction from any system that coercively thrives off their productive energies." (Sciabarra -- "The Russian Radical", pp. 301-302) Say no more. Anyone who knows Beck a bit... |

I wonder if the secret ... (Jun 19 2004 05:56 GMT) - I wonder if the secret to telekinetics is not actually moving matter through space, but moving time and space - manipulating probability. Seems to me that if you can understand the mathematics and physics of probability to the point where you can simply make things happen because you winnow down the probability that might actually be easier, in terms of an exchange of energy, than actually moving and object through space in a given period of time. Just thinking about that makes my brain hurt. When I got to the concert at the Pulitzer Foundation tonight, I was late, thinking the concert began at 8:00 rather than 7: |

Mario and Zelda Big Band: NES music with Latin beats and Japanese lyrics (Jun 19 2004 05:55 GMT) - Someone just posted a track by the "Mario and Zelda Big Band" on a private file-sharing site I'm on. This is a Japanese big band fronted by a singer whose delivery reminds me of the frontwoman for Orquesta De La Luz (my favorite Japanese salsa band), and backed by a huge horn and winds section. They've got a CD of a live performance of music from classic Nintendo games, with invented Japanese words and super tight Latin jazz melodies. I've just ordered the scorchingly expensive CD and ... |
