Steven Levy: A Net of Control (Jun 19 2004 23:37 GMT) - Steven Levy posits the Internet of the future in this article in Newsweek: Picture, if you will, an information infrastructure that encourages censorship, surveillance and suppression of the creative impulse. Where anonymity is outlawed and every penny spent is accounted for. Where the powers that be can smother subversive (or economically competitive) ideas in the cradle, and no one can publish even a laundry list without the imprimatur of Big Brother. Some prognosticators are saying that such a construct is nearly inevitable. |

Naked Buddha (Jun 19 2004 23:36 GMT) - Don't feel for me in the night shadowsI am just a naked reminderlying next to you, and sharing your dreamEmotions have chained me to this moment& I am strugglingto free myselffrom the darkness of want & needThe songs often sung, are more or less, just the broken heart of memoriesrelived, rehashed over & overKarma hanging onto a melody to singDon't cry for me-the tears of sadnessis just the water of disillusionflowing out into the empty sea -wave upon wave crashes on the shore& you are left standing-looking for someone or somethingnot thereThe laughter once heard, is silent, buried beneath years of past deeds& burdens shoulderedI fly as the eaglesoaring to the oneness of who I am& my realityis in myself |

Anxious for Airport Express (Jun 19 2004 23:34 GMT) - I spent the past several days on the road doing some public speaking and working on a couple of Mac stories. And from hotel rooms to conference rooms, I sure could have put the new Airport Express to good use. Apple tells me they'll be available "soon" - meaning mid-July. They hope. But having to use a variety of dial-in and DSL connections during this trip, I found myself desk bound or bed bound, because of the need for a hard wire Net connection to a nearby phone. |

Re: How many hours a week? (Jun 19 2004 23:33 GMT) - American Choppers? Oh yeah, my favorite show! I bought Diane's kid a "Mikey Rules" T-shirt too. Gmail email address (Jun 19 2004 23:33 GMT) - Thanks to Marc Orchant and his highly informative Office Weblog, I've managed to score a Gmail email address. These have a geek cachet as gmail is currently invitation only - an interesting marketing ploy from Google. Gmail itself looks very nice. Exactly the sort of quality you would expect from Google. Hotmail and Yahoo don't stand a chance, except from user inertia - which will be considerable. |
