Last Red Tulips (Jun 30 2004 00:46 GMT) - A poem I wrote in ninth grade. The last red tulips, waving in the breeze. Their little red heads, ... |

Parasite Detection! (Jun 30 2004 00:45 GMT) - ‘Parasite’ is a shorthand term for “unsolicited commercial software” — that is, a program that gets installed on your computer which you never asked for, and which does something you probably don’t want it to, for someone else’s profit. The parasite problem has grown enormously recently, and many millions of computers are affected. All the parasites I currently know about are only compatible with Windows, and some only affect the Internet Explorer browser. The script on this site — when it is run in IE for Windows — can detect many of them. But not all, for tedious technical reasons. |

The Hawara Labyrinth (Jun 30 2004 00:45 GMT) - Our primary aim is to virtually reproduce the historic site of the Hawara Labyrinth which was built around 1800BC. Today the site resembles a moonscape, following its destruction in the first millennium AD. We thus have no clear picture of the plans of the entire Labyrinth or the cemetery; nor do we know their design or proportions. Nevertheless, with the aid of VR technology, we are able to devise visualisations of different probable forms. |

Printable silicon for ultrahigh performance flexible electro (Jun 30 2004 00:45 GMT) - By carving specks of single crystal silicon from a bulk wafer and casting them onto sheets of plastic, scientists at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have demonstrated a route to ultrahigh performance, mechanically flexible thin-film transistors. The process could enable new applications in consumer electronics – such as inexpensive wall-to-wall displays and intelligent but disposable radio frequency identification tags – and could even be used in applications that require significant computing power. A little old, but I've been on vacation. |
