Artists show some contrasts (Jun 30 2004 07:20 GMT) - Sometimes an overload of art theory makes looking hard and enjoying even harder, particularly where provocative imagery is concerned. Consider "Camera and Ink," the visually alluring but philosophically demanding dual exhibit of digitally printed images by Judy Pfaff and Gregory Conniff showing through Aug. 29 at the Milwaukee Art Museum. The exhibit, which at first glance strikes one as a lovely blending of human ingenuity and natural spontaneity, is freighted down by a fairly weighty cargo of ideas and techniques. Curator Sarah Kirk sees the prints as conveying the message that a new relationship must somehow be worked out between human beings and their surroundings - rather like a good marriage, with respect on both sides. |

Stingl: Exchange student visit (Jun 30 2004 07:20 GMT) - Now I can better imagine how foster parents feel when it's time to give up a child you've come to love. You open your home and your heart as wide as you dare, but you know it's just for a little while. Then you're looking at an empty place at the dinner table. We sent our foreign exchange son back to Turkey this week. His plane and returning President Bush's probably passed on the way. |
