How much does virtual online reality change things? (Jun 30 2004 14:59 GMT) - A friend writes: You have this vision of liberalism or modernity as the attempt to create a self-sufficient manmade system which becomes a substitute for the given world, I wonder if you have any thoughts about how computers fit into that scheme. For many people the computer becomes a substitute for the real world. It offers an alternative reality in which ordinary people can experience themselves as the creators and controllers of their own cosmos. It's an interesting point that deserves thought. |

Delay Manager [3] (Jun 30 2004 14:59 GMT) - I've been spending some time lately looking through the Twisted networking API for Python. I'm constantly impressed with how well the API uses patterns and object relationships to solve "hard" problems. Hell, it even makes mundane tasks like delaying a method call simple and yet still powerful. That delay code, part of the IReactorTime interface, is really quite nice - so I decided to spend a little bit of time this evening porting the idea over to AS 2.0 and getting a little standalone ActionScript -> styled HTML converter working... |
