Setting an Object Member to null While Debugging (Jul 22 2004 23:49 GMT) - I was just doing some debugging, and wanted to modify the value of a String member variable to null to see if that would fix a bug I'm looking into. I clicked on the member in the "Data" window, selected Modify Value... from the right mouse menu, then entered null into the field for the new value. However, that ended up setting the value to the String containing the four letters "null". I shot an Oracle Messenger chat over to Liz who works on our core debugger and she passed on the tip. |

Photopeer (Jul 22 2004 23:49 GMT) - Looks pretty interesting... Photopeer helps make photo sharing seamless by allowing iPhoto-to-iPhoto and iPhoto-to-Windows sharing over the internet. Sharing digital photos no longer requires complicated steps, resizing of images, bounced emails, etc. Photopeer allows you to "simply share". [Photopeer] |

Now I have to start thinking about dinner, then Lin will be home, and I will have accomplished just about nothing today. Oh well. |

Ride #41: Strike Averted (Jul 22 2004 23:47 GMT) - Thank goodness staff and management were each willing to make concessions. Strike averted, we all enjoyed our day off yesterday, and the bonuses included... well, just about anything I could find in the fridge. Unfortunately, I think I'm a little dehydrated. From now until I get back on the bike again tomorrow, I'm going to try to drink a big glass of water every hour. |

In late August I'll be at a San Francisco regional nonprofits-and-technology conference (the details are still to be worked out). In early September I'll go to New York for labor day, my sister's birthday, the Republican Convention, and the launch of the book. |

Reuters reports that the "Oscar- and Emmy-winning film and TV composer [was] so prolific that hardly a day goes by when one of his works is not being played somewhere in the world," and looking at his IMDB profile one sees the credits for over 200 movie scores and TV theme songs. Goldsmith was nominated for 17 Academy Awards during his career of over 50 years but only won one Oscar, for The Omen in 1976. He will be missed, but his musical legacy will live on... |

Copyright Bill could Stifle Innovation (Jul 22 2004 23:45 GMT) - binder520 writes "Wired has an article on how the latest Senate Bill, sponsored by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), will hold technology companies liable for supplying devices or software that can be used to illegally copy music, videos, software, etc. It looks like it is time to write to your senators, because the verbiage in the bill is too subjective for any technology company to stand up to the media giants. Say good bye to your VCR, MP3 players, CD/DVD burners, etc." |
