Congress (Jul 23 2004 17:59 GMT) - Things are looking good for the Commercial Space Launch Amendments Act of 2004. This bill will remove liability from operators of experimental sub-orbital spacecraft. In other words, if you're flying as a passenger on one of those things you know that it's dangerous so you can't sue them if it blows up while you're in it. It also clarifies the process for obtaining a license for a sub-orbital space vehicle. Both of these are very, very important steps toward nurturing a private space industry, and I applaud Congress for embracing them so wholeheartedly (the bill is expected to pass unanimously, or nearly so). |

- My post on Horizons has generated rather a lot of feedback in the comments section, but it's veered way off course from what I consider to be the truly important point of that post. So I wanted to take a section to clarify what I believe about AI (and intelligence in general). It's pretty unrelated to my discussion on religion, but it is rather interesting, so I don't want to stifle the discussion. I'm not an expert (although I do have some base knowledge), so take this with a grain of salt. Oh, and if you haven't already, you should probably read that post and all of the comments before reading further here, although it's not strictly necessary. |

- I would add this: if those are your drawings, that is a particular skill that not everyone possesses. I would certainly add that as something extra that you bring to the table. And if you can code HTML, XML or whatever, add that too, as many people can't. Those who can bring something extra, as well, and show that they know their way around web design/development rather than depending solely on WYSIWYG tools and hoping the code comes out alright. |
