FCC Looks Into Regulating Violence on TV (Jul 28 2004 23:58 GMT) - The Importance of writes "The FCC's regulation of indecent and profane speech has gotten a lot of attention recently. Now, the FCC is considering getting into the business of regulating violence on television (broadcast and cable/satellite). This isn't unexpected, because the House Commerce Committee ordered the FCC to conduct the study. Notice of Inquiry [PDF] [TXT]. Somehow, I don't think the FCC is going to tell Congress there is nothing they can do about violence on TV. |

Япония готовит реформу армии (Jul 28 2004 23:58 GMT) - В Японии утвержден новый план реструктурирования состава японских Сил Самообороны и их вооружения. Согласно плану, количество военнослужащих будет увеличено на 5 тысяч человек, сообщает РИА "Новости". Кроме того, количество резервистов-призывников сократится с 15 до 10 тысяч человек, а число регулярных войск возрастет со 145 до 150 тысяч военнослужащих. Будут также построены 16 тактических и 2 учебные подводные лодки в связи с усиливающейся активностью вооруженных сил КНР в окружающих Японию водах. В японских ВВС будут размещены системы электронного слежения за траекториями баллистических ракет нового поколения. |

PHP / MySQL Recordset MM_Error DWMX 6.1 Mac 10.3.4 (Jul 28 2004 23:57 GMT) - Yeah - there's some kind of funny little bug, I can't remember exactly what it is. Try this: Go into your original connection routine (click on it in the connections box over on the right). Re-select the connection you want in the dropdown, hit okay, then save the file. It should fix itself if it's the same thing I'm thinking of. |

How To Lose $12 Billion On A Hot Property (Jul 28 2004 23:54 GMT) - By 2000, it was clear that Lycos was an also ran in the search and portal arena, but Terra, the big Spanish internet company, still paid a cool $12.5 billion for the company. A few months later, Lycos ditched their own search technology in favor of FAST's (now owned by Yahoo). Still, with the sudden focus on search and portals again, you would think the site might be worth something. Apparently not very much. |
