SURFING KINMOKUSEIOn the last leg of my warm dawn ... (Oct 10 2004 00:15 GMT) - SURFING KINMOKUSEIOn the last leg of my warm dawn walk this morning, just as the sun came out from behind the last of the low typhoon clouds I was walking past the big plot of land used by a garden shop owner in the big city as a nursery for various big shrubs and bushes and trees much desired by gardeners, when once again the paradisiacal scent of kinmokusei (sweet olive tree; Oleaceae fragrans var. aurantiacus) caught me by surprise, telling me what time of year it really was, wafting one of the deep meanings of time from that carefully selected and nurtured forest. As I walked in the growing warmth, the scent increased to such intensity as the sunlight became the plants that soon I was surfing down the mountain road on a creamy wave of heavenly scent that carried me all the way down to my house. Because kinmokusei has no big flashy flowers, only tiny, golden buddish blossoms hiding peeping the axils of the branches, I never see it coming, so every year at this time it catches me by the same surprise. |

Australia, Reporting for Duty (Oct 10 2004 00:15 GMT) - Lots of good commentary on John Howard's stunning victory over the forces of appeasement and schtoopidity in Australia, at Silent Running. That faint whining you hear from the southern hemisphere is the sound of thousands of terminally depressed Aussie moonbats. |

Solar Eclipse (Oct 10 2004 00:13 GMT) - This is the second partial solar eclipse of 2004, and is expected to be visible, depending on the weather of course, on Thursday 14th October from Japan, Mongolia, Siberia and China. What is more interesting is, that the end of the solar eclipse should be visible from Alaska - however due to the International date line, it will be Wednesday 13th October! Sadly, I don't live in or near any of those places, so I'll just have to view pictures of it on the internet!! |

Japan Qualifying postponed (Oct 10 2004 00:13 GMT) - With Typhoon 22 set to hit Japan not long before Qualifying was scheduled to start on the Saturday meant that conditions for the qualifying session would be tretcherous. With high winds and torrential downpours meaning the track would likely be flooded and aquaplaning a certainty. This has meant that qualifying for the penultimate race of the season is being rescheduled to occur just hours before the grand prix is set to start on the Sunday! Hopefully conditions improve significantly so that the event can still take place!!!!!! |

Flash Mob's (Oct 10 2004 00:13 GMT) - I'm sure you've heard of the latest craze - flash mobing. Where it's arranged that people will meet up at a specified location, do a really crazy act, and then disperse as quickly as they came once it's all over. This fad has even made it as a term in the dictionary! Here are a group known as Improv Everywhere, who do crazy things on the spur of the moment. Some of their more entertaining escapades are the Takeover of the Virgin Megastore music booths, the no-pants on a subway tube train, and pretending to be a Big Mac. |

More Movie Rentals... (Oct 10 2004 00:13 GMT) - It's been a relatively quiet weekend. No racing, and not a great deal on the tv either. The weather has definitely changed for the worse, what with it being deciding colder and wetter now! Which makes the darker and somewhat gloomier Autumn days that much worse! Soon I'll be needing to use my lights on my mountain bike on the way to work rather than just on the way home. |

Fare Deal as Wireless E-Business Solution Meets Italian Taxi Group's Demands (Oct 10 2004 00:02 GMT) - Radiotaxi 3570 needed to improve the services offered to its corporate customers, replacing its previous paper voucher system with a Wireless e-business system that enables corporate passengers to subscribe and pay taxi fares through a messaging system. Radiotaxi 3570 used a paper coupon system to provide its corporate passengers with vouchers for proof of service. To simplify life for businesses using services, Radiotaxi 3570 began experimenting with an innovative wireless electronic coupon system from IBM. The Wireless e-business system made it easier and more cost effective for both Radiotaxi 3570 and its customers to track when Radiotaxi 3570's taxi services had been used. |

A Bank Steeped in 150 Years of Tradition, The Bank Which "Cares" (Oct 10 2004 00:02 GMT) - The Monte dei Paschi Bank is the oldest bank in the world, founded and operating without interruptions since 1472. While in the past the SIU was supporting the requirement for each bank of the Group to work independently, the requirement is today for an IT infrastructure which supports a higher degree of integration. The bank also faced the need to integrate the Java environment with the .Net environment. CoperGMPS has developed the concept of an Integrated Service Bus (a "Conveyor Belt"), where each company is not only exchanging data resulting from internal processing, but where each company provides services to other companies and utilizes services from other companies. |
