GPS Update (Oct 16 2004 23:59 GMT) - I am going to trade my Socket in, today, for a beefier model. This one’s nice when it comes to mobile mapping and antenna-supported driving, but rotten for Geocaching, as I learned today up in Vasona Park. Additionally, I’d like to point y’ |

Sizing rod tips.. (Oct 16 2004 23:56 GMT) - I'm trying to replace the tip on my baitcaster and unfortunately my local tackle shop didn't have any tips in stock. I checked out Sports Authority and they had the tips but I didn't know what size to get. I spoke to the person running the fishing section and asked that I bring my rod in. He gave me the size he thought was right but unfortunately, it wasn't. I can fit the previous tip into the hole of the new tip. |

I was THIS close... LOL (Oct 16 2004 23:56 GMT) - Our last tournament of the year was this morning, with high winds and at one point two foot waves. I don't see how you guys go through anything worse than that, but I can see how a larger boat would have handled it better than my 17' Nitro. We launched at 6:00am and returned at 2:00pm. |

OT Did Al send a bear to my house? (Oct 16 2004 23:56 GMT) - Weird experience last night, woke up to my wife screaming and my dogs barking, seems the front gate on my deck was ripped off by a huge black bear and he was wondering my deck trying to get a bag of trash that we left outside. Now it's not uncommon to run across a bear walking the road or in the woods or even down by the lake, but to have one come up to your second floor deck is a whole new experience. I saw him rumbling around the trash, so I opened the window and shouted, he looked... |

Saturday Morning Not As Good (Oct 16 2004 23:56 GMT) - Well, I did return to the lake on Saturday morning at dawn. The temp was as cool as it's been this year - 54 degrees. I know, I know - that isn't very cold compared to where many of you live. The bass fishing started out pretty good but was over by 9AM. I managed to hook 11 and brought 8 to the boat. |

I need to stop, especially because the next episode is the last one of the fifth season and I read spoilers online.I ate some more crack cake (caramel toffee cake) and I ate it slowly to get as much enjoyment out of it as I could. |

Alternative Handwriting and Shorthand Systems (Oct 16 2004 23:51 GMT) - The letters you are now reading, while well adapted to the eye to be read, are so ill adapted to the hand to be written that schools teach longhand as an alternative to printing them. The more cursive longhand is easy to learn, but only about 10% faster than printing. Alternative handwriting systems offer 100% or better improvements in handwriting ease and speed. If you could spend the rest of your life taking notes or keeping a journal/diary while writing two or three times faster, then, gee, why not? |

Real Fashion:Tips for real body shapes (Oct 16 2004 23:51 GMT) - I want you to make friends with fashion. I really do. I want you to know that there are clothes out there that will not only fit, but flatter. Clothes that won't make you feel like a second-class citizen just because you can name more than one pizza off the Pizza Express menu. It is just not true that fashion is for the tall and thin, and that real clothes are for everyone else - there is something called real fashion, which is for everybody. |

Press Freedom on the Precipice (Oct 16 2004 23:51 GMT) - A prosecutor's investigation into an apparent attempt by the Bush administration to punish a political opponent by revealing classified information has veered terribly off course. It threatens grievous harm to freedom of the press and the vital protection it provides against government misconduct. The reality of the threat was driven home, quite personally for us, last week, when a federal judge in Washington sentenced a Times reporter, Judith Miller, to up to 18 months in prison for refusing to testify before a grand jury. |

The Garden State is not, despite the protestations of some pollsters and the occassional news story, a battleground state. That means that I am not seeing any television ads for Bush or Kerry. I am not getting any mailings to my house for Bush or Kerry. The Swift Boat, MoveOn and other 527 and PAC ads aren't showing on my TV. |

The Dinner and the Dance (Oct 16 2004 23:49 GMT) - Tonight is the Homecoming Dance. I posted some photos of Lindsey and her date. This has been a very different experience for me. In years past when we had these kinds of events there was a gaggle of girls getting ready for a dance and before we left one boy would join all these girls for our photo ops. This year Lindsey was invited to the prom and she and I drove over to his house for the photo ops. |
