Группировка аз-Заркави сменила название (Oct 23 2004 23:40 GMT)

- You might notice that I've completely disabled comments for the time being. This is doubtful, however, since most of the comments posted here are from robots and not people. I was going to whip up something a little less generic than the default placeholder that shows up now but I had to wonder what the point really was. In fact, my comments were entirely broken and redirecting to the FBI site until Tony was kind enough to inform me. I fixed it and then the torrent of spam comments started again.

- Quote: "steer us away from designing purely in code as he said 'The programs are here to take the pain away from coding'" LMAO, sorry, I can't let that comment go. Hand coding is there to take the pain away from the code the programmes produce ;) Programmes like Dreamweaver can be a help, but if you just let them ignorantely write all the code, you'll end up with some generally ugly looking code. It'll be more prone to breaking, it'll download slower, it'll be harder to maintain.

Treo 650 Specs Leaked (Oct 23 2004 23:33 GMT)

- Even though the official announcement of the Treo is less than two days away, there continue to be leakes uncovered at Treonauts.  The latest is a Treo 650 Specification page which confirms a bunch of things we’ve already heard but doesn’t introduce anything new and doesn’t answer all the questions out there.  For one, we still don’t know if the SD slot will be fully SDIO compliant so that Wifi or GPS SD cards might work in the 650.  However, there is the following:Multi-connector for add-on peripherals:

What's the Biggest Sustainability Problem in the World? (Oct 23 2004 23:31 GMT)

- WorldChanging writes that according to a recent global survey of experts, the answer is: water. Water is of course fundamental to life itself; our own bodies are about 70% water (as is the earth's surface itself). Fresh water may appear to be abundant to the average resident of a developed nation, with water faucets throughout the house.

Consuming Too Much of the Earth (Oct 23 2004 23:30 GMT)

- ENN -- People are plundering the world's resources at a pace that outstrips the planet's capacity to sustain life, the environmental group WWF said Thursday. In its regular "Living Planet Report," the World Wide Fund for Nature said humans currently consume 20 percent more natural resources than the Earth can produce. Consumption of fossil fuels such as coal, gas, and oil increased by almost 700 percent between 1961 and 2001, it said. But the planet is unable to move as fast to absorb the resulting carbon-dioxide emissions that degrade the Earth's protective ozone layer. "We are spending nature's capital faster than it can regenerate," said WWF chief Claude Martin, launching the conservation body's 40-page study.

Now That's Thin (Oct 23 2004 23:30 GMT)

- BBC Science -- A new class of material, which brings computer chips made from a single molecule a step closer, has been discovered by scientists. Called graphene, it is a two-dimensional, giant, flat molecule which is still only the thickness of an atom. The nanofabric's remarkable electronic properties mean that an ultra-fast and stable transistor could be made. The physicists from the University of Manchester and Chernogolovka, Russia, published their research in Science.

Russian Parliament Ratifies Kyota Protocol (Oct 23 2004 23:30 GMT)

- BBC Environment -- Environmentalists have hailed the Russian parliament's ratification of the Kyoto Protocol on climate change as a huge step forward. Russia's lower house, the State Duma, voted 334-73 to approve the treaty, meaning enough nations have signed up to bring it officially into force. "We'll toast the Duma with vodka tonight," a Greenpeace activist said. However Washington said it still does not intend to adopt the pact, which calls for cuts in greenhouse gases. "We do not believe that the Kyoto Protocol is something that is realistic for the United States and we have no intention of signing or ratifying it," State Department spokesman Adam Ereli said.
