a small town in Kansas called the East Village (Oct 28 2004 02:59 GMT) - The Hedwig and the Angry Inch star—who spent that movie in drag and going on "dates"—placed the band in what Mitchell describes as a "utopian whorehouse" filled with downtown denizens, including the WORLD FAMOUS *BOB*, G SPOT, MONA FOOT, SWEETIE, JEFFREY DEITCH, DIRTY MARTINI, and a handful of DAZZLE DANCERS. (Sometimes here at Fly Life headquarters, it feels like we live in a small town in Kansas called the East Village, and we write the high school newsletter.) - Tricia Romano, "Sex Slaves," village voice October 25, 2004 |

Does the Rest of the Country Understand? (Oct 28 2004 02:58 GMT) - I have to wonder if the rest of the country has any real idea what a big deal it's going to be if the Red Sox win this game tonight (or any of the three games that could come after it). Not that it will affect the whole country that much... and that's really the point. New England's losing streak in baseball isn't just legendary across the country, it's part of our six-state culture. Last week I mentioned... |

Helpline Comment (28742) (Oct 28 2004 02:55 GMT) - I really have to kind of scratch my head and mutter "Huh?" to myself whenever I see a response to a post on here that suggests a serious update of the machine in question to fix a problem. It was always my impression that the whole *point* of the Obsolete Computer Museum Helpline was to help others fix the problems in running *obsolete* systems. It seems like one thing to reply, "Poster X, you will not be able to upgrade that machine from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 because Windows 95 requires more memory than that motherboard will allow. |

Pro-Kerry Sign Posted in Bernards, NJ (Oct 28 2004 02:55 GMT) - Here is a photograph of a sign posed in Bernardsville, NJ by the parents of a Marine stationed in Iraq. They believe that John Kerry will do better for our soldiers and our country than George Bush, and are proud to say so in large, noticeable letters in a hugely Republican town, in a hugely Republican County. I am equally proud to have my campaign sign in the photo, right next to this bold declaration. Remember, we have an opportunity to make a big difference in this election by working for the Democratic ticket this coming weekend and on Election Day. We need canvassers, phone bankers and drivers each of those days, but particularly on Tuesday, November 2. |

Although the majority of top-ranking countries are from northern Europe, it is perhaps more interesting to note where countries such as Switzerland, Italy, the UK and the USA fall (1, 39, 28 and 22, respectively)." |

Bush campaign blocking Web site access outside of US (Oct 28 2004 02:52 GMT) - Direct and Related Links for 'Bush campaign blocking Web site access outside of US' First of all, the fact that the Bush campaign has decided to block Web site access outside of US makes sense for a number of reasons. With the current state of the hacking world today, it would just be too tasty of a target for a potential attack from a foreign attacker. Wait, why would anyone care? Simple, because he is a political figure. It has nothing to do with party affiliation, just the fact… |
