Butane Burners and Rice Cookers (Oct 29 2004 16:58 GMT) - Japanese company Iwatani makes a variety of butane-powered, portable stoves and rice cookers that are quite fine looking, including this single-burner stainless steel model and this not-quite-as-swanky rice cooker. All models feature piezo-electric triggers for easy ignition. Mocoloco has a few more models. ... I've used camp stoves and the like for years, but they were never so glamorous. |

No Rubber Ball (Oct 29 2004 16:58 GMT) - After just enough time to suffer freezing conditions and have a quick sauna, I'm leaving Finland on my way back to Ibiza. I fly into Stansted tonight, probably sleep in a corner, and tomorrow morning check in for the last Easyjet flight of the year to Ibiza at 05:00. We had originally planned to stay in London and go to the Torture Garden Halloween party with Sanna and her boyfriend, Simon who owns Libidex and had promised to lend us some latex outfits - but I guess we'll just have to look forward to that for another time.... |

Hawking HWL 1 Detects Wi-Fi Strength, Direction (Oct 29 2004 16:56 GMT) - Hawking Technology is preparing to sell a new Wi-Fi finder next week that not only can discern wireless networking signals from other 2.4GHz broadcasts (like Bluetooth), but can also tell which directly they're coming from. The HWL 1 has a flip-up communicator look to it, and can display the signal strength with five integrated LEDs. It will retail for around $35, and will come with non-rechargeable lithium batteries (that they claim should work for about 2 years). It's a little on the big side, at 3. |
