MY DOG WANTS HIS OWN DOG CAM (Oct 29 2004 21:59 GMT) - Japanese company making dog-collar digital camera. Great news! Now we can all watch our dogs lick themselves into a frenzied state of ecstasy or eat their own crap really close up! Speaking of stupid dogs, did you catch this story about a man who was watching a soccer game only to see his missing dog invade pitch, chase ball for five minutes in front of crowd of 60,000? Reminds me of something my wife's two stupid Beagles would do. |

WiMAX vs. 3G vs. Wi-Fi, Strong Competition Expected (Oct 29 2004 21:59 GMT) - Until recently, many believed the new IEEE 802.16 standard and established 3G cellular standards, such as Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) and EVolution, Data-Only (EV DO), could co-exist with little competition. However, the introduction of mobility into the WiMAX roadmap, as well as the slow and expensive roll-out of 3G services in many areas of the world, have made WiMAX a direct competitor to 3G. Additionally, many operators have made significant investments in Wi Fi equipment, which is likely to play an integral part in many wireless broadband deployments. |

A Firm Foundation for the Linux Desktop (Oct 29 2004 21:58 GMT) - "The X Window System, which is the foundation of graphical displays on Linux, Unix, BSD, and Mac OS X, has long stayed submerged in the public consciousness just as it has been submerged under window managers and heavyweight desktops. (In fact, the desktops bear much of the guilt for torpid response and lavish memory use that observers like to heap on X.) Recently, X as a technology has received more of the attention it deserves, on this site among other places. Yet no one has talked about the organization that makes these advances possible, the thorough makeover it has received in the past year, or the financial neglect that holds desktops back from even greater things.OSDir RSS Sponsored by LinuxQuestions. |

Helpline Comment (28772) (Oct 29 2004 21:57 GMT) - I agree with the issue concering systems going to waste. But, you have to remember that there are a heck of allot of older systems out there. Not to mention the drop in prices of Motherboards. Today a cheap but functional P4 MB,533 fsb, will run about $45.00, some even less. |

Another Boston sports U2 montage (Oct 29 2004 21:57 GMT) - I absolutely love U2, but this montage from WEEI just sounds a bit awkward. It's nowhere near as good as the Patriots "Walk On" video montage that The Place ran a few years ago. Maybe it's because the song "Beautiful Day" is four years old, but it just doesn't work here. Their new single "Vertigo" doesn't really apply to the Sox winning the World Series, but it probably would fit the postgame celebration in the streets of Kenmore Square, and the next day's hangover as well. Meanwhile, SportsCenter had Pedro and Ortiz live from Disney World. |
