Chobits Vol 1 : 4 of 5 (Oct 29 2004 23:34 GMT)

- I've seen lots of images from this anime all over the web, so I knew this was a really popular show that I had to check out. I actually saw an episode on the Anime Channel, but the dubbing was so bad that I couldn't get into it, so I decided to start renting the series. The first volume was fantastic! It has all the cuteness of the first few episodes of Mahoromatic without the science fiction battles. A country boy named Hideki moves to Tokyo to go to prep school, and sees that everyone has Persocoms, which are walking, talking personal computers (mostly female and totally cute, of course).

Internets! (Oct 29 2004 23:31 GMT)

- Last time around the right wing treated us all to a concerted campaign to pretend that Al Gore had falsely claimed to have invented the Internet. I presume it was nostalgia for those good old days that lead President Bush to invent the whole new and improved internets. As usual the Whitehouse made a valiant effort to prove there the existence of many Internet (or is it Interneti); even leaking top secret information to make their case. But wait!

Three Days to Go The ... (Oct 29 2004 23:30 GMT)

- Three Days to Go The presidential election campaign should have been the occasion for a grand debate about national goals for the century ahead. It could have been a refining and reaffirmation of the American dream and of ways to open that dream to all our people. It could have been an inspiring call for us, as citizens, to be more than we have been. What we got instead was a desperate, poll driven, scuffle by two candidates who finally came off as nothing more than grimly determined job seekers. The election coupled all the petty rancor of a tenure dispute with the astronomical expense of a product launch.
