Nothing Has Changed (Oct 30 2004 02:59 GMT) - Putting the election aside, Bin Laden's tape is irrelevant. It says nothing we didn't already know. We knew he hated the US. We knew he hated Israel. We knew he hated President Bush. |

Bush's presidency deeply religious: commentator (Oct 30 2004 02:59 GMT) - Talk of civil war and marching armies locked in a centuries-old struggle suggests the kinds of conflict that we associate with the Middle East or, not so long ago, the Balkans. But one prominent American commentator uses that kind of language in describing the battle between fundamentalists and moderates in the American Republican Party, all because George Bush has created a faith-based presidency. It's the view of Ron Suskind ... [who is] a visiting scholar at Dartmouth College and author of a compelling insider's account of the White House. Read the article |

That's Something To Be Proud Of, Mikey... (Oct 30 2004 02:54 GMT) - I'm kicking myself for not connecting the dots on this (having seen Micheal Moore's extended political commercial just a week ago):Bin Laden suggested Bush was slow to react to the Sept. 11 attacks, giving the hijackers more time than they expected. At the time of the attacks, the president was listening to schoolchildren in Florida reading a book. "It never occurred to us that the commander-in-chief of the American armed forces would leave 50,000 of his citizens in the two towers... |

Dear comment spammer (Oct 30 2004 02:54 GMT) - I just spent fourteen minutes deleting twenty-six of your lame-ass spam ads for drugs I don't need and would never buy from your website if I did, and online games of some type which I don't play and would never play at a spammer's site if I decided to. That's fourteen minutes that I will never get back. Kennedy could probably have deleted them more easily, but with him inexplicably AWOL I decided to remove them manually so that you don't get one second more of free advertising than I... |

Hate-Mongering Archbishops in Africa (Oct 30 2004 02:54 GMT) - Nigeria: It seems the Anglican Church in Africa has jumped onboard the hate train that's usually reserved for loonie fundies. African Bishops condemned the Anglican Church's stance on homosexuality yesterday and said that they would stop sending priests to be trained in countries where same-sex relationships were accepted. The 300 Anglican bishops who met in Nigeria for the first African bishops convention said homosexuality was an unAfrican practice and warned that congregations would turn away from a church that condoned it. Only the Archbishop of Cape Town, Njongonkulu Ndungane, offered any dissent, saying his church was committed to its entire congregation, including homosexuals. |

In Praise Of My Guy (Oct 30 2004 02:52 GMT) - Tomorrow is nine years since JP died. And normally--as if any of the past nine years have seemed "normal"--but normally I would be in a state of advanced chronic depression by now. I'm not, though--my meltdown the other day notwithstanding. In fact--I'm sorta okay, sorta, and just WORLDS better than I have been any other year since then. A huge part of that can be attributed to LJ. |
