Wal-Mart vs. George Carlin (Oct 30 2004 20:59 GMT) - An Anonymous Patron writes " Wal-Mart has decided that their customers are unlikely to buy a George Carlin book that is currently fifth on the NYT Best Seller List. Does the company think their shoppers are a breed apart?". Daniel adds: Does this add to the controversy over whether library shelves should mirror bestseller lists? |

Homeland Security enforces trademark laws for expired trademark (Oct 30 2004 20:59 GMT) - Anonymous Patron writes "Seems Homeland Security has extended it's long arm to include enforcement of patent and trademark infringement laws. But according to this AP story on Yahoo, there was no infringement. Seems that Homeland Security is leaping in with both feet without thinking or even looking. What's next? Perhaps library dragnets to catch anyone who takes notes or uses copiers? |

SimpleBits | Comments Are Disabled (Oct 30 2004 20:57 GMT) - SimpleBits | Comments Are Disabled At least I'm not the only one. I've deleted about 100 comment spams in the last two days. The referer spam is getting out of hand too. I had one host (now blocked) hit lr2.com over 2,000 times with various faked referer headers. |

Colorado removes player names from jerseys (Oct 30 2004 20:57 GMT) - The Colorado players voted on Wednesday to remove the names from the back of their jerseys. The team's saying that they're going to be more unified, play as a team, and fight for the name on the front of their jerseys. I'm thinking at 4-3... |

Re: Morthylla: how to classify? (Oct 30 2004 20:56 GMT) - As I mentioned, I intended my remarks not to pertain to "Morthylla", but instead to the more general observations you made regarding CAS near the end of your post. I certainly don't mean to hijack your thread, but your general comments seem to invite comment, in return. I've written what I needed to write on that subject, however, and will try let those who wish to discuss " |

Apple Smacks Down Its Customers (Oct 30 2004 20:56 GMT) - A while ago, I was pleased to discover iPodDownload, a utility that let you move audio files from your iPod to a computer. Apple doesn't want you to do this, because it apparently encourages piracy. While I'm a sometime pirate, all I wanted to do was use my iPod to move my audio files from my desktop to my laptop computer--a totally legal and legitimate application of the technology. Unfortunately, as BoingBoing reports, Apple has released iTunes 4.7, which breaks iPodDownload. |

dvd business cards (Oct 30 2004 20:55 GMT) - some of you are familiar with CD business cards which can be useful but are fairly limited at only 50Mb of storage. Well, you can also get DVD Business cards and they store 475Mb. Unfortunately I can currently only find them from companies who print up many copies for you. Finding just the raw media is nigh impossible for a lay-person. On a related thought, there are a number of linux distributions like Damn Small Linux that are designed to fit on a business card sized CD. |
