America Has Car Troubles (Oct 31 2004 03:35 GMT) - Rick’s Picks Monday, November 1, 2004 For investors who’d rather be smart than lucky By now, most of us grasp the economically suicidal nature of the pact that sustains trade between America and Asia. They send us everything we need to live the good life, and we send them worthless slips of paper in return. Free lunch for America? No sirree. We’re just running a tab, as Gary North has written, delaying payment for SUVs, flat-panel TVs and... |

Avoiding (Oct 31 2004 03:34 GMT) - Turns out my silly blonder half thought that there would be People here, and he wasn't up for that. Also, the timing was screwed, and there was a miscommunication on timing. So he's not avoiding me. He's avoiding People, and (again) he's only used to seeing his friends 1 or 2 times a year. I pointed out when it was last that I'd seen him. |

I'm Afraid the Children Are Our Future. (Oct 31 2004 03:33 GMT) - I'm seeing them again this election season. Little headlines in parenting magazines, mentions in the preschool newsletter, even casual comments in the e-mails of friends who have small kids. "Vote for your children," they say, or "Vote for kids!" or "Cast your ballot for the future generation." I know they mean well. |

Can a modest amount of mild exercise, reduce heart attack ri (Oct 31 2004 03:33 GMT) - That is the gist of an article published in the New England Journal of Medicine titled "A Prospective Study of Walking as Compared with Vigorous Exercise in the Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease". It is authored by JoAnn Manson, MD and her colleagues from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health. The study group was 72,488 female nurses who were 40 to 65 years old at the time the study started and were followed for eight years. During that time, there were 645 non-fatal or fatal heart attacks. The women were divided into five groups (quintiles) according to the amount of physical activity, ranging from very little (sedentary) to quite vigorous (running at a speed of 10 minutes per mile, bicycling, playing tennis or squash, doing aerobics etc). |

Save Vincent... or else (Oct 31 2004 03:33 GMT) - Silly me. Here I had thought all the brouhaha over my Hamster Hot Air Ballon piece was over and done with two years ago. However, that just doesn't seem to be the case. Apparently several animal loving - Birkenstock wearing - save the rainforest - hippie cock smokers have taken it upon themselves to chastise my actions on numerous animal cruelty websites. |

What's Happened Since (Oct 31 2004 03:32 GMT) - Tonight, nine years ago, was the night JP died. I think about his mom, a lot. His family, at that time in my life, treated me better than my own family. I still have the winter coat his mom and grandma gave me that fall; I wore it every winter til last year, when I reluctantly accepted the necessity of a new one. |
